Abstract

1,012,401. Clamp fasteners. BAYSWATER MOTORS Ltd. and J. F. BARDOLPH PARTNERS Ltd. June 4, 1962, No. 9986/61. Heading E2B. A plate or sheet metal clamp has a pin 5 adapted for engagement with registering holes in the plates or sheets to be riveted or otherwise connected together the pin being formed with a recess 6 at one side so as to provide a shoulder 26 near its free end and being mounted to slide axially in a holder provided with a shrouding 7 which fits against the side of the pin remote from the recess, the cross sectional dimensions of the shrouding and recessed part of the pin being together substantially equal to the cross sectional dimension of the full diameter of the free end of the pin, the pin being spring loaded for axial movement in the holder in the clamping direction by means of a compression spring 11 in the holder abutting a collar 12 threaded on the pin and slidable in the holder whilst the pin is operated to positively clamp the plates or sheets together between the shouldered end of the pin and the front of the holder, by means of a nut 19 screwed on to the other end of the pin and taking a bearing against the rear end of the holder, the collar 12 being arranged to extend from the holder in the clamping position of the pin whilst the nut is counterbored to slidably accommodate the collar when the nut is screwed against the holder. The holder consists of a collar 2 and a portion 1 having a reduced end 3 on which the collar 2 is a force fit. The portion 1 is bored to receive the spring 11 and the collar 12, the collar being screwed on to a threaded portion 17 of the pin to enable the spring tension to be adjusted. The nut 17 has a bore 20 to receive the collar 12 and the end of the nut is dished to receive a thumb to assist in manipulating the clamp. The holder portion 1 is provided with a radial flange 22 which can be held between the fingers. The end of the pin 5 is provided with a stop 27 to prevent removal of the nut.
