Abstract

1,012,397. Well tools. BAKER OIL TOOLS. April 29, 1963 [April 30, 1962], No. 16709/63 Heading E1F. A well packer comprises elastic packing 22, an abutment 13 or 19 adjacent one end of the packing, a rigid ring 32 engaging less than the full cross-section of the packing prior to setting of the packer, and an expandable member 38 in engagement with the ring and the abutment. The ring prevents fluid leaking between the packing and the casing B when the packer is set, and between the packer body 10 and the packing as the packer is run into the casing. The expandable member, which comprises two metallic split rings 39, 43, prevent extrusion of the packing past the abutment when the packer is set. The interior of the ring may have a projection, or the interior or exterior of the part 30 of the packing may have a projection. The ring may have an inwardly extending flange which is not engaged by the packing.
