Abstract

Hydroxycobalamin is obtained by adding acid to an aqueous solution of cyanocobalamin to bring the pH to below 4, warming to 25 DEG to 50 DEG C., reducing, e.g. with iron or zinc, aerating, and then contacting the solution with an ion-exchange resin charged with hydroxyl ions. The acid used may be hydrochloric, sulphuric, hydrobromic or nitric acid. The hydroxycobalamin may be precipitated from solution with acetone. Specifications 916,186 and 1,007,973 are referred to.
