Abstract
1495339 Detoxificating formaldehyde-containing effluents DEUTSCHE GOLD-UND SILBER SCHEIDEANSTALT 16 April 1975 [22 April 1974] 15608/75 Heading C1C A process for detoxificating a formaldehydecontaining aqueous effluent comprises treating the effluent with hydrogen peroxide in the presence of an alkali at a starting temperature in the range from 10 to 35 C. The hydrogen peroxide may be a 30 to 50% by weight solution, the alkali NaOH, and the effluent may be neutralized with a mineral acid and then subjected to a biological purification. The invention may be used at both high and low formaldehyde concentrations, e.g. from 0À01 to 10% by weight in the effluents, with a reaction time of from 3 to 30 minutes.
