Abstract
1,011,856. Zone-melting. TOKYO JISHAKU KABUSHIKI KAISHA. March 21, 1962 [Dec. 30, 1961], No. 10799/62. Heading BIS. [Also in Division B3] A cast body of magnetic material, e.g. iron, nickel or cobalt, or alloys of these metals with silicon, aluminium, molybdenum or chromium is zone melted by induction heating, heat being abstracted from the melted zone in such a way as to produce an anisotropic body having a desired crystal structure. The process may be carried out by initially casting the material into an alumina mould in which it remains during the zone-melting treatment. As illustrated in Fig. 1, the body 1 is lowered slowly through induction coil 2 into coolant bath 3, as a result of which it is caused to have a coarsely columnar crystal structure.
