Abstract

The dialkali metal salts of dicarboxylic acids are obtained as dry, finely-divided solids by mixing an aqueous solution of the salt with an inert hydrocarbon and a dispersing agent and distilling the mixture to remove the water as its azeotrope with the hydrocarbon. The aqueous salt solution may be obtained by reacting in alkal metal hydroxide, carbonate or bicarbonate with the dicarboxylic acid in aqueous solution. The specified hydrocarbon is xylene. Suitable dispersing agents are polyoxyethylene sorbitan esters and sulphated alkyl phenols. Examples relate to disodium phthalate and disodium succinate.
