Abstract
N-Acyl-taurides of the formula RCONH-CH2CH2-SO3Me wherein R represents a C6- 22 aliphatic saturated or unsaturated branched or straight-chained radical, or a cycloaliphatic, aromatic, aromatic-oxyalkyl, or aliphatic-aromatic radical and Me represents an alkali or alkaline earth metal cation, are prepared by condensing an alkali or alkaline earth metal salt of 2-hydroxy-ethane-sulphonic acid with a carboxylic acid amide of the formula R-CONH2 in the presence of a catalytic quantity of an alkali or alkaline earth metal hydroxide or alcoholate at a temperature ranging from 190 DEG to 250 DEG C., an inert gas such as nitrogen or carbon dioxide being passed into the liquid surface or through the reaction mixture from below while stirring, the water formed being removed from the reaction mixture.
