Abstract
N-Acyl taurides of the formula R-CON(R1)CH2CH2SO3Me wherein R represents a C6- 22 aliphatic, a cycloaliphatic, an aromatic, an aryloxyalkyl or an aliphatic-aromatic radical, Me represents an alkali or alkaline earth metal, R1 represents an alkyl or phenyl radical or a radial consisting of condensed benzene rings in which the nonalkyl radicals can be substituted by alkyl groups, are prepared by reacting an alkali or alkaline earth metal salt of 2-hydroxyethane sulphonic acid with an amide of the formula R.CONHR1 in the presence of catalytically active quantities of an alkali or alkaline earth metal hydroxide or alcoholate, at a temperature of from 190 DEG to 250 DEG C., an inert gas being passed into the liquid surface or through the reaction mixture from below during the reaction while stirring, the water formed being removed from the reaction mixture.
