In a sieve drum drier 1 for webs of material passing in sinuous path about the staggered arrangement of drums, that part of each drum which is free of the material to be dried is wholly or partly without any inner cover plate, to allow air to be drawn into the drums after passage over the exposed surface of the web on adjacent drums. Baffles 6 and 7 may be positioned between adjacent drums in the same horizontal plane to divert air into the exposed surfaces of the web before passing into the interior of the sieve drum through its uncovered portion.
