Abstract
A raw batch mixture for the manufacture of a bonded abrasive article, e.g. a wheel, comprises abrasive grain and an organic bond for the grain, which bond includes perchloropentacyclo (5.2.1.02,6.03,9.05,8) decane of empirical formula C10Cl12; preferably in particulate form and in an amount of 0.5-20% by weight of the mixture. Suitable abrasives are silicon carbide, aluminium oxide, bauxite, zirconia, flint, garnet and alundum. Suitable bonds are phenol-, urea- and melamine-formaldehyde resins, modified phenolics, epoxides, alkyds, polyesters, natural or synthetic rubbers, and shellac. Sodium chloride, calcium oxide, cement and cryolite may also be present. The mixtures usually comprise by weight 65-75% abrasive, 9-27% phenolic resin, 10-21% mineral filler and 1-3% of the perchloro compound.
