Abstract
A grinding wheel is made from a mix comprising abrasive grains, an organic bond and, as a filler, not less than 5 per cent of a simple alkali metal salt of an oxygen-containing acid, the 5 per cent being calculated by volume on the bond plus filler. Preferably, between 10 and 60 per cent is used. The salt may be sodium or potassium sulphate, borate or phosphate, e.g. sodium meta-phosphate, sodium metaborate or anhydrous borax, or sodium nitrate. The abrasive grain may be fused alumina, silicon carbide, emery, corundum, diamond, garnet or quartz.
