Abstract
1,010,370. Pipe coupling; pipe stoppers. WALTER SLINGSBY & CO. Ltd. Sept. 14, 1964 [July 12, 1963], No. 27690/63. Headings F2G and F2P. A coupling for connecting a service pipe 9 to a gas main having a hollow screw-threaded inlet part 1 to be secured to the main, a hollow outlet end 2 for the connection thereto of a service pipe, and a further screw-threaded opening 5 to allow the connection of a test rig is characterized in that the opening 5 has its axis inclined at less than 90 degrees to the axis of the bore of the outlet end and at least the bore of the inner end of the inlet part is in axial alignment with but spaced from the opening 5 so that an expansible stopper 11 of a test rig can be introduced through said opening and pushed into the inner end of the inlet bore to close it temporarily. As shown, the inner end of the inlet bore may be formed by a wall 12, or the inlet part may extend parallel to the opening 5 as shown in chain-dotted lines and the bend to be in alignment with the outlet end 2 or may remain parallel with the opening 5 and may or may not be provided with a wall (Fig. 2, not shown). The service pipe may be held by resilient ring 8 and nut 7 and may be located by diametrically opposite step lugs 10. Specification 956,591 is referred to.
