Abstract
1,009,034. Supporting water tube steam boilers; tube walls for furnaces. HEINRICH VORKAUF, and LA MONT KESSEL HERPEN & CO., K.G. Aug. 4, 1964 [Oct. 8, 1963], No. 30526/64. Headings F4A and F4B. A water-tube steam boiler has a combustion chamber 1 lined with contacting tubes 2 which emanate from lower distributers 3 and end in upper collectors 4 or in a drum 5 and which is fired by burners 6, the combustion gases passing upwards through a superheating surface 7 and then down a vertical gas pass 9 that contains further heating surfaces 8, 10. To support the tube wall formed by the fluid cooled tubes 2 against internal pressure a supporting framework consisting of individual ring frames 11 spaced apart over the height of the boiler and connected to each other by inclined struts, vertical tie-rods, or vertical tubes, is constructed round the tube wall and attached directly to the fluid cooled tubes 2. The ring frames 11 are made of hollow section members, and the inclined struts and vertical tie-rods may also be made from tubes or from solid rods with tubes coiled round the rods, so that they can be connected to the ring frames and a cooling fluid at approximately the same temperature and pressure as the fluid in the tube walls circulated through the framework. The cooling fluid in the framework may be circulated by a pump and passed through a preheating surface 23 or it may be by natural circulation. Figures 3-5 (not shown) show details of the inclined struts and vertical tubes connecting the ring frames together and Figs. 6-15 (not shown) show various details of joints between ring frames and tie-rods and between ring frames and the tube walls.
