In a loom pattern mechanism, a row of feeling needles 13, 14 for odd and even picks respectively are mounted upon a frame 15-17 for co-operating with rows of holes in a pattern card 10. The card is stepped around for each pick of the loom by a cam disc 48 and pawl mechanism 50-61, and the needle frame 15-17 is moved towards and away from the card by a cam 46 actuating an arm 18 carrying the frame. Each pair of needles 13, 14 is urged down on to a plate 26 by springs 24, 25 and each plate 26 is associated with a lever 31 pivotally supported between fixed plates 33, 33a and coupled to a Bowden cable 34 for actuating the selector mechanism of the loom dobby. When the needle frame is moved towards the card for a reading the needles which encounter holes pass therethrough as in Fig. 4 and are held relative to the frame by a spring-urged catch plate 29 common to all the needles engaging behind shoulders 20 on the needles to lock the plate 26 on to the part 16 of the frame. This plate thereby depresses the respective lever 31 to actuate its Bowden cable and hence the dobby selector mechanism. The needles which do not engage holes the pattern card are lifted relative to the frame and are not held by the catch 29 so that the plate 26 is not operative, Fig. 4a, to depress the respective lever 31. On the upward movement of the needle frame the catch plate 29 is moved by a lever 38 engaging a fixed member 43 to release all the held needles ready for the next reading.
