Abstract
1,008,480. Space-heating systems and apparatus. BRIGHTSIDE HEATING & ENGINEERING CO. Ltd. March 23, 1964 [July 9, 1963], No. 27033/63. Headings F4S and F4U. A space heating system comprises a closed loop of conduit including a pair of parallel duct portions 10 connected by cross leaders 11 and 12 located over the space to be heated and connected to a heater 13 preferably a gas-oil furnace, a fan for circulating air through the loop for heating the space mainly by radiation, the duct spacing relative to the duct height above ground level and the cross-sectional shape of the radiant emissive surfaces being such that substantially the whole space at ground level is heated by the ducts. In Fig. 3 each duct portion 10 comprises three parallel tubes which are hung by U-shaped hangers 14 carried on crossbars 15 with split pins 16 to retain the assembly in position. At each lateral side of the bank of tubes is a sheet-metal convection suppressor 17 spaced from the duct. The parts of the tubes not required for radiating are covered with heat insulation 18. The cross-sectional areas of the heater ducts 11 and 12 are larger than the combined cross-sectional areas of each bank of the ducts 10. The cross-sectional shape of the ducts need not be circular, but may be elliptical, rectangular, triangular or square.
