Abstract
1,144,343. Heating buildings. CUFFLIN ENG. & TRADING Ltd. 26 May, 1966 [6 April, 1965], No. 14602/65. Headings F4U and F4V. A warm air central heating system is installed in an existing building having chimney flues by forming an air distribution system in the flues and connecting an air heater to the distribution system. As shown, an air heater 2 is mounted in the roof space 4 of a house and is connected by ducts 16 to chimney flues 7, 13, 14 and 15 which discharge the heated air through outlets 17 in the fireplaces. The upper parts of adjacent flues 9, 10 are used for the discharge of combustion gases from, and the supply of combustion air to, the heater 2. Air from the rooms passes to the stair-well of the house and returns to the roof space through a louvred trap door. The heater may be oil or gas fired or comprise an electric storage heater, and is provided with a fan. The existing flues may be lined with heat insulating material to serve as the air ducts or have flexible pipes inserted therein. The outlets 17 may be thermostatically adjustable and may be provided other than in the fireplace, e.g. near the ceiling.
