Abstract

1,174,393. Heating and ventilating buildings. ANDREWS-WEATHERFOIL Ltd., and G. T. K. DEAN. 10 March, 1967 [14 March, 1966], No. 11095/66. Headings F4U and F4V. A heating system for building comprises a ceiling plenum space 13 which is common to a plurality of rooms 10 heating means 14 in the, or a communicating, space, at least one fan 17, a supply opening 18 and a return opening 19 in the ceiling of at least one of the rooms and a further fan 20 positioned adjacent opening 18. The rooms 10a not provided with such openings are heated by radiation from the ceiling. Baffles 16 adjacent the heaters 14 cause the air to circulate generally in two closed paths within the plenum space. Opening 18 may be associated with a duct which either depends into the room and has a louvred outlet (Fig. 2, not shown) or extends upwardly into the warmer air at the top of the plenum space (Figs. 3 and 4, not shown). The fan motors are arranged outside such ducts, preferably above an opening in the ceiling. Ducting or baffling is provided adjacent fans 17 so that the latter draw in cooler air from the bottom of the plenum chamber. Heaters 14 may comprise hot-water pipes or air heaters fired directly by oil or gas.
