[Also in Division A3] Cord ties attached to parts of aviator's apparel and with a tensioning device attached to an ejection seat are tensioned rapidly and simultaneously when the device is operated to hold the body restrained against the seat. Arm cords 16 encircling the cuff and extending to a ring on a shoulder strap are connected by a slide to a chest cord passing under clips 24 and extending by cord 26 to a tensioning device 75 on the seat 72. Also connected to the tensioning device 75 is a cord 42 clipped to the heel of each boot and passing through a boot guide 44 which is connected to a spring piston cylinder connected to the seat. The spring forwards the guide into contact with the rear of the boots when the ties are tensioned and the piston is thereby freed. A thigh cord 34 connected to a thigh strap 32, is connected to a tensioning device 77. A cord connected between a pivoted visor 51 and a shoulder ring 28 carries a runner for a cord 58 connected to a tensioning device 73. Each tensioning device 73, 75 and 77 comprises two parallel series of pulleys, one set being fixedly connected to a cylinder and the other set movably connected to a piston of the cylinder. Air introduced into the cylinder by the action of releasing the ejection seat tensions the ties to hold the aviator in the seat. The arm ties pass under a strip of fabric on the sleeves and secured by a fastening which is ruptured when the ties are tensioned. The three reeling devices may be incorporated in one unit, the feet having a separate reeling device and the piston and cylinder being replaced by hinged tube members. The cords are automatically cut prior to the aviator's separation from his seat.
