Abstract

Ethylene is polymerized, e.g. at 15000 to 60000 p.s.i., with a peroxide initiator composition comprising at least 3 peroxides selected from at least two of the following three types: Type 1, having a 10-hour half-life at 110 DEG to 175 DEG F.; Type II, having a 10-hour half-life at 175 DEG to 250 DEG F.; and Type III, having a 10-hour half-life at 250 DEG to 320 DEG F. In examples the initiator composition comprises lauroyl peroxide and/or tertiary butyl peroxyisobutyrate, tertiary butyl peracetate and ditertiary butyl peroxide. Comonomers and/or chain transfer agents may be present and a continuous flow tubular reactor may be used. Specification 471,590 is referred to.
