Abstract
1,007,732. Pit cage loading bridge. STAMICARBON N.V. June 25, 1962 [June 26, 1961], No. 24376/62. Heading B8E. A loading bridge 1 for a pit cage is hinged to the fixed floor 2. The bridge is raised to the inoperative position shown by fluid pressure acting in a piston and cylinder unit 5, 7 and is locked in this position by a locking device 8 operated by a cylinder 9. The bridge is allowed a controlled descent solely under gravity to the operative position when the cylinder by-pass 10, 11 is opened by a valve 12, pressure to the cylinder 7 being constantly supplied from a vessel 14. With no cage in position a valve 16 is open operating the cylinder 9 to lock the bridge in the raised position and to lock a valve 19 closed so that even operation of a manually controlled valve 23 cannot admit pressure to the line 13 of the valve 12. When a cage is in position a detector device operates a coil 18 to close the valve 16 so that the locking device 8 unlocks and the valve 19 can be opened when the valve 23 is operated so that pressure reaches the line 13 and opens the valve 12 in the by-pass 10, 11 so that the bridge can fall into operative position. Momentary opening of the valve 16 as a cage moves from deck to deck is insufficient to raise and lock the bridge.
