Abstract

964,795. Weighing-apparatus. ZAVODY V.I. LENINA PLZEN NARODNI PODNIK. Dec. 30, 1960 [Jan. 14, 1960], No. 44739/60. Heading G1W. [Also in Division B8] Means for automatically supplying charging material to smelting furnaces comprises a hopper 1, a trap door 5 in the hopper, catch means 13 arranged on the hopper for holding the trap door in the closed position until the hopper is to be discharged, remotely controlled means 20 for releasing the catch means and means 8 for damping the movement of the trap door so that, when the catch is released, the weight of material in the hopper opens the trap door, which closes when the contents have been discharged, the damping means regulating the time interval during which the trap door remains open. The hopper 1 is suspended through springs 2 from the lever system 3 of a weighing maching. The lever system may have a link connection by which it interrupts its suppy to the weighing machine when a predetermined quantity has been supplied to the hopper. The remotely controlled means 20 is an electromagnet which, when energized, raises a bar 18 and this movement forces a wedge 19 out of a recess 23, against the action of a spring 21, and turns a lever 16 whereby, through a link 15, the catch 13, which is in the recess 23, being unlocked, is rotated to release a bolt 11 and allow the door 5 to open. Linkage 10 connects the door 5 with a piston-rod, the piston of which, descending as the door opens, forces oil through a wide opening into a storage space until, near the end of its descent, it covers the opening and oil can then escape only through a port, the size of which is adjustable, against a spring-loaded valve, thus giving the required damping means.
