Abstract

100,711. Summerfield, F. M. March 1, 1916. Turning-gear.-A kick starter, of the kind in which a toothed quadrant 8 engages a spur-wheel 7 driving the engine shaft through ratchet gear, is combined with a variable-speed gear in which a friction disk C is slid across the face of the fly-wheel 1. The friction gear may be put out of action, to facilitate starting, in two ways, one being to move the disk 6 opposite a recess in the centre of the fly-wheel, and the other to move the fly-wheel axially against the pressure of a spring 17.
