Abstract

The invention provides a process for dyeing wool-containing materials in which the wool material is treated with a chlorination product of cyanuric acid or water soluble salts thereof and then dyed by a conventional method in the same liquor. Specifically mentioned are trichlorocyanuric chloride and dichlorocyanuric acid and alkali and alkaline earth salts thereof. The chlorinating agent is applied to the wool goods within the pH range at which the dye is to be applied, advantageously the praticatment solution is slightly alkaline, alkate metal polyphosphates being used, the temperature is room temperature to 70 DEG C., conventional wetting agents also being used. After chlorination a dechlorinating agent may be used to remove excess chlorine, e.g. bisulphites and hydrogen peroxide in free or combined form. The dyes used for dyeing are acid, metal complex and vat dyes. The wool may be blended with rayon, polyesters, polyamides, polyacrylonitrile, polyurethane or polypropylene.
