Abstract

1,006,680. Stirring by magnetic field ; reducing substances with iron particles. CIBA Ltd. July 19, 1962 [July 21, 1961], No. 27897/62. Headings B1C and BIF. Particles of magnetic material in a non- magnetizable liquid reaction medium may be stirred by means of a rotary magnetic field. As shown, iron filings 24 in an aqueous acid medium 12 are stirred by means of a rotating horseshoe magnet 20. Non-magnetic waste material 22 such as iron oxide settles to the bottom of the vessel whence it may be removed. Alternatively the magnet may be dispensed with by surrounding the vessel with a coil which generates a rotary field.
