Abstract

1,005,826. Covering cores by winding. SUDAVIATION, SOC. NATIONALE DE CONSTRUCTIONS AERONAUTIQUES. July 3, 1962 [July 7, 1961], No. 25500/62. Heading B8G. A mandrel 21, to be covered with reinforcing thread 30, is mounted on a table 1 that is rotatable about a vertical pivot 2 through bevel gearwheels 6, 7 driven by a motor 8. The table 1 carries a frame 17 on which is mounted a rotatable shaft 18a serving as an axial support for the mandrel, the shaft 18a being capable of being inclined to the horizontal to intersect the axis of the pivot 2 at a point O substantially at the centre of the mandrel. A stationary thread guide 22 feeds the reinforcing thread to the mandrel along a line that is perpendicular to the axis of the pivot 2 and that passes through the point O. The stationary pivot 2 carries a bevel gearwheel 10 driving a planet wheel 11 carried by the table 1. The planet wheel 11 drives a worm wheel 19 through a change-speed gear 12, the worm wheel 19 being rigid with the shaft 18a. When the motor 8 is energized the mandrel 21 rotates with the table 1 as well as with the shaft 18a, such rotation causing the reinforcing thread to follow an elongated-pitch helix about the mandrel. To wind the girth windings 40, the motor 8 is stopped, the frame 17 is adjusted to swing the shaft 18a down into the horizontal, and a second motor 36 is energized by means that causes the change-speed gear 12 to be disconnected; the motor 36 then driving the shaft 18a through gear means terminating in the worm wheel 19. In addition, the thread 30 is removed from the stationary thread guide 22 and transferred to a traversing frame 38 sliding on a rod 31 and reciprocated by a lead screw 32 driven by a third motor 35. The threads are connected together by means of a synthetic binding agent.
