Abstract
1,005,680. Boring earth. GEORGE E. FAILING CO. Nov. 14, 1963 [Dec. 6, 1962], No. 45067/63. Heading E1F. In apparatus for drilling slanting holes and comprising a support 2 and a mast 5 pivotally mounted on the support, the mast is pivoted from a reclining position (Fig. 2) to an erect position (Fig. 1) about an axis 17, and is pivoted about an axis 18 to a slanting position (Fig. 4). Frames 41, 42 pivoted about sleeves 28 on the support are connected to adjustable braces 45, 46.by pivot pins 26, 27 on the axis.17, the mast being rotated about the axis by jacks 62, 63. When the mast is erect pivot pins 78, 79 on the axis 18 are screwed within the sleeves 28 to engage the mast. The weight of the mast is taken on the jacks, locking pins 59 are removed from the braces, the mast is pivoted to the slanting position about the axis 18, and the pins are again inserted to lock the mast in position. In a modification (Fig. 14) trunnions 101 for the axis 17 are fixed to shoes 103 slidable on arcuate rails 99 fixed to the support.
