Abstract

1,124,353. Boring earth etc.; hooks. DRESSER INDUSTRIES Inc. 30 Sept., 1965 [7 Oct., 1964], No. 41588/65. Headings E1F and E2A. A hook 21 is attached to a travelling block 10 by an adapter 20, the hook being pivoted to the adapter, and having a first position (Fig. 1) in which a drill pipe stand 56 is supported by elevator links 49, 50 and a second position (Fig. 2, not shown) in which the bail (57) of the swivel carrying the drill pipe string is supported. The hook has a latch 59 for retaining the bail, and opposite the latch a slot 55 which in the first position is in alignment with slots 15, 23 in the block and adapter to permit the hook, adapter and block to slide over a pipe stand when it is made-up in, or broken from, the string. The adapter is rotatably supported on the block by a flange 25 engaging rollers 26, and the hook is pivoted on pins 40 on spring urged members 30, (31) carried by the adapter.
