Plug conplings. - Plug- and-socket couplings, in which no live parts are accessible when the two parts of the couplings are separated, comprise, in the form shown in Fig. 1, identical plug and socket parts each having a socket 5 recessed within an insulating- block 1 and auxiliary concontacts 13 in line with the socket 5, secured in place by means of a bolt 9 which projects in the form of a plug 11 and is insulated from the socket 5. When the parts of the plug are pushed together, the circuit between the leads 3, 4 is completed through the socket 5, the upper plug, the auxiliary contact 13, the lower plug 11, and the other socket. The auxiliary contacts serve to cover, to a large extent, the recess in the insulating-block, and also guide the plugs into place, facilitating the connexion. In the forrm shown in Fig. 3, the lefthand element of the coupling has a recessed socket 5 and two interconnected projecting pins 23, 24. The right-hand element has a central socket 25 connected to pin 26. The recesses for the sockets may be covered by slotted plates or by guiding contact members as shown in Fig. 1. The coupling may be modified for multi-wire connexion.
