Abstract

In an electroplating bath for silver, the silver used is a compound containing a sulphon-amido group e.g. 4-sulphon-amido-benzoic acid, which is rendered soluble by adding caustic soda forming a complex. For example, silver nitrate is added to a neutralized solution of 4-sulphon-amido-benzoic acid in at least equi-molecular proportions, and the precipitate formed is dissolved by adding further alkali. Plating is effected at a C.D. of 0.1 -0.3 A.S.Dm. or higher. Any heavy metals are precipitated from the solution which is readily regenerated.
