Abstract
1,004,929. Electro-photographic materials. KALLE A.G. Oct. 7, 1963 [Oct. 13, 1962], No. 39479/63. Heading H1K. [Also in Division G2] An electro-photographic material has an electrically conducting support bearing a photoconductive insulating layer containing one or more photo-conductive thiadiazoles conforming to the formula:- in which R 1 and R 2 , which may be the same or different, each represent an alkyl radical or a saturated carbocyclic or heterocyclic radical, or either R 1 or R 2 may represent hydrogen, and R 3 represents a substituted or unsubstituted aryl or heterocyclic radical. In specific compounds R 1 and R 2 are exemplified by hydrogen, and methyl, ethyl, n-propyl, n-butyl, isopentyl, cyclopentyl, and cyclohexyl groups, while R 3 is exemplified by an o-methyl-phenyl or a m-chlorophenyl group, by a phenyl, α- furyl, α-naphthyl, or a γ-pyridyl group, or by phenyl groups substituted in the p-position by ethylamino, diethylamino, ethylbutylamino, butylamino, dibutylamino, isopentylamino, or methoxy groups, chlorine, or bromine. In a general passage additional examples for R 1 and R 2 are iso-propyl, hexyl, 2 : 4-dimethylhexyl, and tetrahydrofurfuryl groups and piperazine or morpholine residues. Additional examples for R 3 are diphenylnaphthyl groups and residues of pyrene, phenanthrene, indene, anthracene, perylene, fluorine, thiophene, pyrrole, and indole. These (R 3 ) may be substituted by halogens, alkyl groups, alkoxy groups, caralkoxy groups and substituted or unsubstituted amino groups. The support materials mentioned are those commonly used. A list of suitable binders is given-use of a binder is optional. Spectral sensitivity, normally in the range between long-wave U.V. and short-wave visible light, may be modified by dyestuff sensitizers. Seven specific embodiments are given.
