Abstract
1,003,987. Building units; slab faced walls. S. JAKOBSEN. Oct. 2, 1962, No. 37323/62. Headings E1B and E1V. A wall facing component comprises reinforced concrete slabs 3, 4 connected together by inclined supporting members 6 so that one slab only need be secured to the supporting construction, the slabs being held apart by spacing members, the connection between the slabs being such that the slabs may individually vary in dimensions according to temperature fluctuations, &c. As shown, the slabs are spaced apart by blocks 7 of cellular concrete or foamed glass, which are cast in one of the slabs and contact the other through pieces of asphalted felt 8, which permit relative sliding movement between the blocks and the slab. Flexible steel tie members 6 hold the slabs together and further more slender ties may be provided. In an embodiment, shaped metal loops are each embedded in both slabs, the limbs of the loops having a spacing and tying effect. The horizontal and vertical edges of the outer slab are formed with grooves for sealing compound and the vertical edges may also be formed with inclined drainage grooves. The component is hollow or an intermediate layer 5 of foamed plastics may be provided, either in preformed components or by being injected into hollow components in an erected wall. The component is cast in a mould, sand temporarily holding the slabs of the hollow component apart.
