Exciting; cores.-On the occurrence of shortcircuits or rapid current variations in countercompound wound generators, voltages are induced in the main exciting-windings by transformer action of the counter-compound windings, which voltages tend to prevent the desired variations of the field. The invention consists in impressing additional voltages upon the exciting-windings during the periods of short-circuit &c., these voltages being opposed in direction to those induced in the exciting-winding from the counter-compound winding. In one arrangement, Fig. 2, the primary winding S<2> of a transformer is arranged in series with the generator armature A and counter-compound winding S<1>, and the secondary winding M<2> of the transformer is in series with the shunt exciting-winding M<1>. In another arrangement, Fig. 3, the generator field magnet has a magnetic shunt B<2> carrying a winding S<2> in series with the armature A and counter-compound winding S<1>; the exciting-winding M<1> is mounted upon the core B'. In a modification, Fig. 4, the windings S<2> are placed upon magnetic shunts B<2> extending from the cores B<1> towards the commutating-poles K.
