Abstract

1,003,056. Intake silencers and filters. D.B.A. S.A. Feb. 12, 1963 [Feb. 14, 1962], No. 5708/63. Heading FIB. [Also in Division B1] A gas filter comprises a filter block 1 formed of a folded paper strip rolled to form an annulus, the filter block being disposed between two casing plate members 3, 4 to which it is bonded by adhesive or thermosetting plastic material. The members 3, 4 are preferably made of thin sheet steel stamped to shape; they comprise peripheral portions 8, 9 which form therebetween inlet openings 14 separated by tongues 15, the latter preferably being secured together by welding or clamping. The member 4 has a tubular fitting 12 for mounting the filter on apparatus such as automotive vehicles or compressors. The openings 14 may form Venturi orifices and additional openings 16, Fig. 2 (not shown), may be provided in the portions 8, 9 for silencing. A resonator 17 having an opening 19 is also preferably provided. To bond the filter block 1 to the plate members 3, 4 the latter are pressed upon the block and the assembly heated. In a second embodiment, Fig. 4 (not shown), the portions 8, 9 of the members 3, 4 are omitted, the periphery of the filter block being protected by a perforated sheath 20.
