[Also in Divisions B6, E2 and F2] A luggage case comprises two plastics shells 10, 10<SP>1</SP> (Fig. 2) held in channels 29, 51 (Fig. 16) in a pair of metal frames hinged at H (Fig. 2) and having interconnecting tongues and grooves along their tops and ends with the top channels 29, 51 (Fig. 16) spaced outwardly from those on the ends. The inner edges of the tongues are coplanar providing an extended top tongue 57 which houses two locks (see Division E2) and a handle 12 (Fig. 2). Latches extending through slits in the channel 29 (Fig. 16) and riveted to an inner top flange 31 engage in locks mounted on the opposite tongue frame. The shells 10, 101 are adhesively secured to the lightweight metal frames and are additionally held in position by hard metal clips C (Fig. 20) having a flange 87 extending around the edge of the shell and downwardly bent sharp corners 91 which catch on the softer metal frames, and upwardly bent prongs 88 which pierce the plastics shells. The base hinges H (Fig. 2) (see Division E2) have feet 97 and the case may be maintained in any open position by friction hinges L (see Division E2). The case is lined with material 107, 108 attached by the rivets retaining the hinges H, and an extension of material 108 or a separate piece bridges the gap between the two shells and is sewn to the material 107. A hook 111 engages the lower end of a writing tray (see Division B6) which is retained at its upper end by stops 119 covering the inside of apertures in the tongue frame which are used in the locking device. A loose leaf pile F (see Division B6) may be held in the case by two U-shaped spring metal brackets of aluminium alloy which are riveted to the pile and engage behind the groove 38.
