Receivers; telephone systems and apparatus. - Telephone receivers without permanent magnets have their cores F, Fig. 1, built up of laminated plates separated by insulation, and their diaphragms P slit transversely or formed of thin iron wires, as shown in Fig. 3. The diaphragm slits are plugged with insulating material so that air cannot pass through. The Specification as open to inspection under Sect. 91 (3) (a) comprises also circuit arrangements, in one of which the circuit of the battery e and coil B is connected inductively to line by a transformer or auto-transformer. The coil B may be placed in the line, with the battery e in series with, or in shunt to, the telephone coil B, and with the series arrangement a condenser shunted by a resistance may also be included. The telephone diaphragm is damped by providing an auxiliary damping-magnet placed at right angles to the magnet F, or by placing an adjustable resistance in shunt to the coil B. The telephone may be rendered more sensitive to weak currents by placing a boron resistance in shunt to the coils B, this substance having a negative temperature-coefficient. The inner face of the diaphragm P may be subjected to fluid pressure in order to counterbalance the permanent attraction of the magnet F. This subject-matter does not appear in the Specification as accepted.
