Abstract

599,958. Converting; transformers. STEVENS, A. H. (Electronic Laboratories, Inc.). Nov. 12, 1945, No. 30149. [Class 38 (ii)] An inverter system for producing a constant output voltage from a D.C. source subject to wide voltage variation, consists of a core 40 having primary and secondary core parts separated by magnetic shunts 48 and 49 comprising air gaps, primary and secondary coils 12 and 13 on these respective parts and a capacitor 25 connected across the secondary coil 13 whereby the current in that coil produces a magnetic flux which, added to the primary flux, saturates the secondary core parts. To ensure a lagging current in the primary winding an air gap or gaps may be provided in the primary core part, e.g. as indicated at 54, 55 and 56, or an inductance may be connected in parallel with the primary winding. The ends of coil 12 are connected to the fixed contacts of a vibrator 10, the mid-point of the coil being connected, through source 23, to the vibratory contact; a condenser 29 shunts the contacts. The output circuit may include bucking windings 52 and 53 on the primary core, having approximately from 5 to 15 per cent of the total secondary voltage.
