Abstract

642,617. Inductances. CALVERT, R., and WAYNE KERR LABORATORIES, Ltd. Feb. 26, 1948, No. 5705. [Class 38 (ii)] [Also in Group XXXVI] An ultra-high-frequency measuring bridge comprises a number of rigid metal plates or blocks separated by insulating material (e.g. air) which provide mountings for and electrical connections between the bridge components. The invention is described with reference to a bridge whose ratio arms are constituted by the tapped windings of a transformer T2, Fig. 1, the adjustable arm comprising resistance R and capacity C, the unknown component being connected at U1, U2 and the balance indicator fed from transformer T1; the diagonal NN of Fig. 1 is a plate N, Fig. 2, on one side of which is mounted insulated blocks carrying the terminals U1, U2, and on the other side of which is mounted insulated plates S1, S2 between which the resistance R and capacity C are connected. The two transformers are preferably wound in such form as to lie between U1, U2, N and N, S1, S2, Fig. 3, the plates N, S1, S2 being chamfered to avoid inductive loops where the metal tapes leave the transformers. A trimming inductance may be formed by cutting a slot in one plate and fitting it with an adjustable plunger P, Fig. 6.
