[Class 40 (iv)] [Also in Group XL] A mains-energized field-magnet system for a loud-speaker comprises two coils adapted to produce flux in a single gap, one coil being in series with the valve anode circuits of the amplifier or radio receiver and the second coil being connected in parallel with the first coil, the coils having two magnetic cores mounted between two plates of magnetic material, one of the cores providing with one of the plates a gap in which the moving coil of the loudspeaker operates and the disposition of the coils being such that there is insufficient coupling between them to reduce substantially the impedance of the series coil to alternating current. In the circuit arrangement of Fig. 1, alternating current is supplied to rectifiers 2, the cathode of which is connected through a coil 3 to the anode circuit 4 of the receiver. The second coil 5 is connected across the anode circuit 4 and in parallel with the coil 3. Fig. 2 shows a magnet system comprising cores 6, 7 and poleplates 8, 9 in which the coil 5 surrounds the core 6 which forms the gap 10 for the moving coil, whilst the series-connected coil 3 is mounted on the core 7. The field coils 3, 5 may be similar or the resistance of the coil 5 may be high compared with that of the coil 3.
