Abstract

[Also in Divisions B2 and F4] A sound-producing device 16 of exponential form and having an annular knife-edge 17 is located centrally in the outlet 9 of a spray nozzle by means of a spindle 15 mounted in a bush member 10 in the housing 1 of the nozzle. The device may be adjustably mounted on the spindle or the latter may be adjustable with respect to the bush 10 in order to vary the spacing between the outlet 9 and the device 16. The front face of the device may be in the form of a curved projection, Fig. 3 (not shown), or may be concave as shown at 18. A preliminary mixture of, for instance, fuel oil and air is projected through the outlet 9 and against the edge 17 so that it becomes thoroughly atomized in the surrounding sonic zone by the action of sound waves of high intensity.
