Abstract

[Also in Divisions B1 and F4] Articles 4, 4 on a conveyer belt 3 are heated or cooled by being passed through a wind tunnel 1. The heating or cooling air is caused to exchange heat more efficiently by being made to form vortices 6, 7. These result from the presence of a delta shaped plate 5 positioned at a suitable angle of incidence to the airflow. The plate 5 may alternatively be of " Gothic " wing shape (Figs. 8 and 9, not shown). The plate 5 may be divided in half through its apex and each half disposed on each side wall of the tunnel. Instead of the leading edges of the plate being swept back as shown, they may be swept forward. The trailing edge may be serrated. The plate may be curved instead of planar (Fig. 7, not shown). The leading edges of the plate 5 may be of knife edge formation.
