Electro-magnetic switches.-A dynamo used for charging batteries on an automobile for example, has a coil connected across the brushes and located within the field magnets of the dynamo and a pivoted iron blade similarly located carrying switch contacts, and adapted to be attracted by the core of the dynamo armature to connect the dynamo to the battery as soon as the dynamo generates the requisite voltage. As soon as the machine is operative, the field produced by the armature adds its effect to that of coil, but, if the battery tends to supply the armature, the resultant reversal of the field due to the armature core, causes the iron blade to return under the action of a spring and break the circuit.
