Electro-magnetic switches for use as automatic cut-outs in motor and like vehicle lighting are constructed with a yoke c formed of a bent strip of iron, and a bent spring h adjustably secured to the yoke and carrying the armature i, small adjustable air-gaps i', i<2> being left between the armature and the yoke. Screws h<1> passing through a slot in the spring h secure it to the yoke. A contact brush j is attached to the armature and, when the armature is attracted, meets a stationary contact d connected to a terminal II. The electro-magnet has a series winding g and a shunt winding g<1>, the series winding being connected between the terminal I and the yoke c, and the shunt winding between the terminals I, III. The terminals are connected to a dynamo and battery in the usual manner.
