Abstract
1,000,276. Electromagnetic relays. AMERICAN MACHINE & FOUNDRY CO. Dec. 18, 1961 [Dec. 28, 1960], No. 45352/61. Heading H2B. An electromagnetic relay has a non-magnetic member attached to the limb of the yoke on which the armature is pivoted and providing the anchorage for the armature biasing spring, acting as an armature back-stop and retaining the armature on its knife-edge pivot. The non-magnetic member 30 (Fig. 5) has lugs 31 which engage in slots 32 (Fig. 1) of the limb 12 of the yoke 10 and a limb 34 which passes through a hole in the armature 27 to a bent-over end 36 retaining the armature 27 against a knife-edge on the limb 12 between locating lugs 24 which also pass through holes in the armature 27. One end of the biasing tension spring 38 is secured in a lug 37 of the member 30 and the other end is secured to the armature 27 between two armature extensions 28 which engage the face 33 of the member 30 in the de-energized position. The core 14 has two identical T- shaped parts 22, 23, secured to the yoke at 20. The pole face 19 is rectangular and has its smaller dimension normal to the armature pivotal axis to limit differences in leverage due to misalignment of the armature and pole face 19 due to manufacturing differences. An insulating plate 40 is secured by a screw 42 and nut 42<SP>1</SP> to a limb 41 of the yoke 10 and supports fixed contacts 47 which co-operate with movable contact springs 49 mounted on the armature. Lugs 44 on the plate 40 retain a cover for the relay and further projections may be provided on this plate to locate the relay on a channel support (Figs. 6, 7, not shown).
