Abstract

1,000,033. Washing machines. POLYMARK Ltd. Sept. 13, 1962 [Sept. 21, 1961], No. 33828/61. Heading D1A. A laundry washing machine in which articles to be washed flow in a direction opposite to that of the washing medium, comprises a rotatable inner cage 12 within an outer casing 11 and having internal peripheral annular division members 53 dividing the inner cage 12 into partial compartments through which the articles pass in turn, each partial compartment having baffle members 13 adapted to lift and then drop articles being washed. The cage 12 has liquid scoops 29 on its outer surface communicating with the inside of the cage through perforations in the baffles 13 or (in some cases) through perforations in the cage 12 itself. A trough member 51, rotatable and axially reciprocable, is provided to shift the articles from one partial compartment to the next (or alternatively shifting may be accomplished by gravity, the cage 12 and casing 11 being set at an adjustable angle to the horizontal). Annular rings 52 are fixed inside the outer casing 11 to inhibit passage of washing medium axially along between the casing 11 and cage 12 (but by-pass pipes may be provided). The partial compartments referred to may be used respectively for cold and hot washing, boiling, hot and cold rinsing. Articles can be supplied to a feed opening 35 in a continuous flow from a conveyer and guide shoot. Washing medium inlet and outlet pipes 41, 42 respectively and steam and detergent supply pipes 43, 50 respectively are provided. An outgoing conveyer belt may be provided (loaded by trough member 51).
