Luggage cover system for a motor vehicle The present invention relates to a luggage cover system comprising a central roll-up rear covering device (20) comprising a flexible curtain (21) coupled to a winder formed in a cassette (23) and capable of covering a central main portion of the rear part of the luggage compartment, two rear side cover devices (40) able to cover the side portions of the rear part of said compartment, and a front cover device (30) able to cover the front part of said compartment; said front covering device comprising a rigid shelf (30) intended to rest by its rear edge on the upper face of said cassette (23), and said rear lateral covering devices comprising two rigid lateral fins (40) pivotally articulated at the said shelf (30) and able to occupy an extended position in which they extend coplanar with said shelf (30) in its rear extension. Luggage cover system for a motor vehicle

Field of invention

The present invention generally relates to motor vehicles of the one-piece or hatchback type comprising a luggage compartment extending laterally between two side trims and longitudinally between at least one rear seatback and a rear hatch.

The invention relates in particular to a luggage cover system for such a vehicle.

Background of the invention

One-piece or hatchback type vehicles are generally equipped with a luggage cover system comprising a roll-up covering device comprising a flexible curtain coupled to a reel arranged in a cassette and the rear edge of which consists of a rigid flap.

In the service configuration of these systems, the cassette extends transversely near the at least said rear backrest between the side trims, while the lateral ends of the flap are received in support housings made in these side trims so as to allow the maintenance of the curtain in the unrolled position in which it extends substantially horizontally covering the luggage compartment so as to conceal the objects contained in this compartment from outside the vehicle.

This type of luggage cover system, however, has unsatisfactory ergonomics of use since it requires the user, wishing to load or unload objects in the luggage compartment after having opened the tailgate, to first separate the mudflap from the side trim so as to cause the return of the curtain to the rolled-up configuration and to allow access to this luggage compartment.

We know from American patent application US 2012/0145338 A1, a luggage cover system for a motor vehicle of the type comprising a luggage compartment extending laterally between two side trims and longitudinally between at least one rear seatback and a rear hatch, said system comprising:

• a central roll-up rear covering device comprising a flexible curtain coupled to a reel provided in a cassette and whose rear edge is integral with attachment means capable of cooperating with complementary means provided on said tailgate; and
• a roll-up front covering device comprising a flexible curtain coupled to a reel provided in the cassette and the front edge of which is integral with fastening means capable of cooperating with complementary means provided on the at least said rear backrest or on said upholstery side panels near this backrest.

This luggage cover system is capable of adopting a service configuration in which said cassette extends transversely between said side trims, the curtain of the central rear covering device is unrolled with its rear edge attached to said rear tailgate so as to cover a portion central main part of the rear part of the compartment extending between said cassette and said tailgate, and where the curtain of the front covering device is rolled down with its front edge attached to the at least said rear backrest or to said rear side trim close to this at least said rear backrest so as to cover the front part of the compartment extending between said cassette and the at least said rear backrest.

In this configuration and when the tailgate is closed, the curtain of the central rear covering device extends substantially horizontally in a partially unrolled position.

When a user opens this rear hatch, the curtain is raised by unrolling completely so as to directly allow the loading or unloading of objects in this luggage compartment.

Since the rear part of the luggage compartment has a width that decreases between the cassette and the tailgate, this luggage cover system also comprises two rear side roll-up covering devices provided to cover the side portions of the rear part of the compartment not covered by the central rear cover device.

Each of these lateral rear covering devices comprises a flexible curtain coupled to a lateral retractor formed in the cassette and the rear edge of which comprises attachment means capable of cooperating with complementary means provided on a corresponding side trim.

Although it offers satisfactory ergonomics of use while making it possible to effectively cover a luggage compartment of non-uniform width, this type of luggage cover system proves to be particularly expensive to manufacture due to the fact that it comprises four devices at winding whose two sides also have specific shapes and dimensions.

The present invention therefore aims to provide a more economical solution that nevertheless offers good ergonomics of use and effective covering of the luggage compartment.

It proposes for this purpose a luggage cover system for a motor vehicle of the type comprising a luggage compartment extending transversely between two side linings and longitudinally between at least one rear backrest and a rear hatch, said system comprising a central rear covering device roll-up comprising a flexible curtain coupled to a reel made in a cassette and capable of covering a main central portion of the rear part of said compartment extending between said cassette and said tailgate, two rear side covering devices capable of covering the side portions of the rear part of said compartment, and a front covering device capable of covering the front part of said compartment extending between said cassette and the at least said rear backrest; characterized in that said front covering device comprises a rigid shelf provided to rest by its rear edge on the upper face of said cassette, and in that said lateral rear covering devices comprise two rigid lateral fins pivotally hinged to said shelf and capable of occupying a deployed position in which they extend coplanar with said shelf in its rear extension.

The luggage cover system according to the invention thus makes it possible to cover the entire luggage compartment while presenting satisfactory ergonomics of use and a particularly reasonable cost price due to the use of a single covering device with winding that can have a "standard" shape and dimensions.

The invention also relates, in a second aspect, to a motor vehicle comprising a luggage compartment extending laterally between two side linings and longitudinally between at least one rear backrest and a rear hatch, characterized in that it comprises such a concealment system baggage.

According to an advantageous characteristic, said luggage cover system can be removably mounted in said compartment.

Figures 1 and 2 show the rear part of a motor vehicle comprising a luggage compartment 2 extending laterally between two side linings 3 and longitudinally between at least one rear seatback 4 and a rear tailgate 5 pivotally mounted around a transverse axis between a raised open position and a lowered closed position.

The vehicle is also equipped with a luggage cover system 10 designed to cover the luggage compartment 2 so as to prevent the luggage placed in this compartment from being visible from the outside.

In the rest of this description and by convention, the terms "lower", "upper", "longitudinal", "lateral", "transverse", "front" and "rear" will be defined in relation to the usual orientations for an occupant seated in one of the vehicle seats.

The terms “external” and “internal” will be used to define the relative position of an element with reference to the median longitudinal axis of the vehicle. The element closest to this axis will thus be qualified as internal as opposed to the other element further from this same axis which will be qualified as external.

Shown alone in FIG. 3, the luggage cover system 10 comprises a central roll-up rear covering device 20 comprising a roll-up flexible curtain 21 having a constant width over its entire length and being preferably made of an opaque material and impermeable such as a waterproof canvas.

The front edge of this flexible curtain 21 is coupled to a reel 22 formed in a cassette 23 while its rear edge intended to be attached to the tailgate 5 is formed by a substantially flat rigid flap 24.

As illustrated by FIGS. 1 and 2, the cassette 23 can be removably mounted transversely in the luggage compartment 2 between the two side linings 3 and by means of interlocking receiving supports 3A provided in the median longitudinal zone. of these fittings 3 and cooperating with the two lateral ends of this cassette 23.

With reference to these same figures, the rigid flap 24 can be removably fixed to the tailgate 5 of the vehicle by means of attachment means 25 (visible in FIGS. 3 and 5) and capable of cooperating with complementary means spared on this tailgate 5.

The flap 24 advantageously has a curved profile matching that of the tailgate 5, so as to ensure optimum concealment of the luggage.

As illustrated in Figures 3 and 5, the flap 24 also preferably includes a grip handle 26 to facilitate its grasp by the user wishing to unroll the curtain 21 to bring this flap 24 to the tailgate 5 in order to fix there.

The luggage cover system 10 also comprises a front covering device 30 intended to cover the front zone of the luggage compartment 2 located between the at least said rear backrest 4 and the cassette 23 of the rolling device 20.

This front covering device consists of a rigid removable shelf 30 of trapezoidal shape formed by a rigid panel 31 covered on at least its upper face by a carpet covering 32 (see FIG. 4).

The rigid panel 31 is preferably made of a composite material of wood fibers of the MDF type or of a plastic material optionally filled with natural and/or synthetic fibers (for example polypropylene filled with glass fibers). It has a thickness advantageously greater than 4 mm giving it mechanical strength allowing it to support small objects, this thickness also preferably being between 6 and 8 mm in order to limit its mass.

The luggage cover system 10 finally comprises two lateral rear covering devices 40 intended to cover the lateral zones of the rear part of the luggage compartment 2 not covered by the central rear covering device with roll-up 20.

These side covering devices consist of two symmetrical side fins 40 mounted pivotally articulated by their front edges on the rear edge of the rigid shelf 30 and along the same transverse axis.

Each lateral fin 40 is movable between an extended position illustrated by FIG. 3 in which it extends coplanar with the tablet 30 by extending it rearwards, and a folded position illustrated by FIG. 5 in which it is pressed against the upper face of this shelf 30.

Of substantially triangular shape, each of the side fins 40 is formed by a rigid panel 41 similar in construction to the panel 31 and being covered on at least its upper face by a carpet covering 42 (see FIG. 4).

The two side fins 40 are hinged to the shelf 30 via two flexible strips 50 each connecting this shelf to a corresponding fin and being advantageously made from a single piece of carpet with the coverings 32 and 42.

We will now briefly describe the operation of the luggage cover system 1.

In this service configuration and when the tailgate 5 is in the closed position (FIGS. 1 and 3), the curtain 21 extends substantially horizontally in a partially unrolled configuration where it covers the central rear part of the luggage compartment 2.

As can be seen in Figure 3, the side areas of the rear part of the luggage compartment 2 not covered by the curtain 21 are covered by the side fins 40 whose internal side edges are joined to the external side edges of this curtain 21 .

As soon as a user opens this rear hatch 5 (FIG. 2), the flap 24 accompanying its movement pulls on the curtain 21 which rises by unwinding entirely so as to directly allow the loading or unloading of objects in the compartment. baggage 2.

When the user of the vehicle wishes to benefit from a larger loading opening of the luggage compartment 2 to allow the placement of objects having a significant height (boxes, furniture, etc.), the luggage cover system 10 can be removed from the vehicle.

According to other variant embodiments not shown, the rigid panels of the shelf and of the fins are made of a light composite material formed of two thin rigid skins (for example polyurethane, polypropylene, polyethylene or thermosetting resin) taking into sandwich a cellular core (for example cardboard, polystyrene, plastic or PET foam), such as FLAXPREG ^® (skins made up of a thermosetting resin base, for example of the epoxy or acrylic type, reinforced with flax fibers and with excellent properties of mechanical resistance in bending and torsion for a reduced mass), BAYPREG ^® or even SOMMOLD ^® (skins made up of a polyurethane base reinforced with fiberglass).

According to still other embodiments not shown, the two side fins are articulated to the tablet by means of hinges.

Finally, it is recalled that the present invention is not limited to the embodiments described and represented, but that it encompasses any variant of execution within the reach of those skilled in the art.

Claims (10)

Luggage cover system for a motor vehicle of the type comprising a luggage compartment (2) extending transversely between two side trims (3) and longitudinally between at least one rear backrest (4) and a rear tailgate (5), said system comprising a roll-up central rear covering device (20) comprising a flexible curtain (21) coupled to a reel (22) made in a cassette (23) and able to cover a main central portion of the rear part of said compartment (2) s extending between said cassette (23) and said tailgate (5), two lateral rear covering devices (40) capable of covering the lateral portions of the rear part of said compartment (2), and a front covering device (30) capable to cover the front part of said compartment (2) extending between said cassette (23) and the at least said rear backrest (4); characterized in that said front covering device comprises a rigid shelf (30) provided to rest by its rear edge on the upper face of said cassette (23), and in that said rear lateral covering devices comprise two rigid lateral fins ( 40) hinged to pivot to said shelf (30) and capable of occupying a deployed position in which they extend coplanar to said shelf (30) in its rear extension. Luggage cover system according to Claim 1, characterized in that the said fins (40) are pivotally articulated along an axis transverse to the said shelf (30) between the said deployed position and a folded position in which they are pressed against the upper face of said shelf (30).
