VEHICLE CENTER CONSOLE COMPRISING AN ARMREST AND A

STORAGE SUPPORT [001] The invention relates, in general, to the central consoles, in particular mounted in motor vehicles.

The invention relates more particularly to a central console of a motor vehicle comprising an armrest and a storage support.

In known manner, a motor vehicle comprises a central console located between the two front seats of the vehicle so as to be easily accessible to the driver of the vehicle. The center console includes various elements such as the gear lever, the handbrake lever and an armrest. It is also known that the armrest is pivotally mounted in order to access a storage compartment located under the armrest.

Today, the increasing use of automatic gearboxes makes it possible to dispense with the gear lever. Similarly, the use of an electric parking brake eliminates the need for the handbrake lever. The center console thus freed from these levers is used to offer new features to vehicle passengers, such as a cup holder for passengers seated in the rear of the vehicle.

Such a cup holder allows passengers seated in the rear seats to place a can, coffee or a thermos of tea for example.

Document EP1454789 discloses a motor vehicle comprising two pivoting armrests mounted between the front seats of the vehicle, each armrest comprising an arm rest surface and a cup holder, the arm rest surface and the cup holder being arranged on faces opposite the armrest. Thus, an armrest can pivot between a position in which the armrest surface is on top and a position in which the cup holder is on top in order to be used by rear passengers.

However, such a solution has drawbacks. Indeed, two armrests are necessary so that the driver can use the armrest surface of a first armrest while the rear passengers use the cup holder of a second armrest, which increases the number of elements to be assembled and thus increases the costs.

In addition, the vehicle according to the document comprises a compartment recoverable by a closure member independent of the armrest which further adds elements and has the drawbacks mentioned above.

Finally, there is a risk of overturning the can placed in the cup holder if a passenger in the vehicle swivels the armrest whose cup holder is on top.

The invention therefore aims to solve these drawbacks by proposing a central console which makes it easy, reliable and inexpensive to integrate a storage support for rear passengers.

To achieve this result, the present invention relates to a vehicle center console, said center console comprising a main body, an armrest rotatably mounted with respect to said main body between an open position and a closed position, and a support for storage mounted sliding at the rear of said armrest between a storage position and a deployed position, said central console being remarkable in that it comprises means for locking the armrest in the closed position when the storage support is in the deployed position .

Thanks to the console according to the invention, it is possible to deploy a storage support at the rear of the central console. In addition, the object stored on the storage support is protected from being knocked over by locking the armrest in the closed position, thus preventing any risk of the storage support tipping over when the armrest is opened.

Advantageously, the armrest extending along a longitudinal axis, the storage support is secured to the armrest and mounted to slide along said longitudinal axis of the armrest.

Advantageously, the armrest is rotatably mounted, preferably at its rear portion corresponding to the end of the armrest on the side by which the storage support is able to be deployed, around a transverse axis orthogonal to said longitudinal axis of the armrest.

Advantageously, the storage support comprising a blocking end, said blocking means comprising first guide means arranged in the main body, second guide means arranged in the armrest and said blocking end adapted to slide in said first and second guide means, said first and second guide means are configured to be aligned when the armrest is in the closed position so that, in the deployed position of the storage support, said blocking end of the storage support is engaged in both the first and second guide means so as to lock the armrest in the closed position.

Advantageously, the armrest being mounted on the main body by a hinge, said second guide means are arranged in a part of said hinge secured to the armrest.

Advantageously, the first guide means comprise at least one slide arranged on the main body and the second guide means comprise at least one groove dug in the armrest.

Advantageously, the storage support is a cup holder.

Advantageously, the storage support is a support for an electronic device, preferably for a tablet or a smartphone.

Advantageously, the main body comprising a storage compartment open on top, the armrest is rotatably mounted relative to said main body so as to cover said storage compartment in the closed position, the armrest being lowered, and for allow access to the storage compartment in the open position, the armrest being raised.

The invention also relates to a vehicle comprising at least two front seats and a central console as described above, mounted between said front seats.

Other characteristics and advantages of the invention will appear on reading the detailed description of the embodiments of the invention, given by way of example only, and with reference to the drawings which show:

• Figure 1, a diagram of a vehicle center console according to the invention comprising a pivoting armrest, • Figure 2, a diagram of the central console of Figure 1 in which the cup holder is in the deployed position, • Figure 3, a diagram of the locking means of the armrest of FIG. 1 when the cup holder is in the deployed position.

In what follows, the embodiments described relate more particularly to an implementation of the central console according to the invention in a motor vehicle. However, any implementation in a different context, in particular in any type of vehicle, is also covered by the present invention.

FIG. 1 represents a motor vehicle 100 comprising seats arranged in at least two rows: a front row, also designated row 1, comprising two front seats including in particular the driver's seat and a passenger seat, and a rear row, also called row 2, located behind row 1 and comprising rear seats for passengers.

The terms front, rear and above are defined relative to the motor vehicle 100 moving forward on a traffic lane.

The motor vehicle 100 includes a central console 10 mounted between the front seats of the motor vehicle 100. In other words, the central console 10 is mounted between the driver's seat and the front passenger seat so as to allow the driver to use the center console 10.

The central console 10 includes a main body 1, an armrest 2 rotatably mounted relative to the main body 1, a storage support and a ventilation nozzle 4.

The main body 1 is adapted to be fixed to the motor vehicle 100. The main body 1 has an elongated shape along a longitudinal axis XX extending from front to back so as to be mounted in the space between the two front seats. The main body 1 defines a storage compartment 11 open on the top and accessible by lifting the armrest 2 as will be presented below.

The main body 1 comprises at a rear part two console feet 12 extending vertically. The main body 1 comprises at its rear part an axis of rotation YY extending transversely, in other words orthogonally to the longitudinal axis XX, and around which the armrest pivots 2. Preferably, a hinge is mounted on the feet console 12 to allow rotation of the armrest 2 about the axis of rotation YY.

The main body 1 further comprises first guide means extending longitudinally to guide the storage support. As illustrated in Figure 3, the guide means comprise at least one slide 13 at each console leg 12. The storage support is adapted to slide in the slides 13 as will be presented later. The first guide means have been presented in the form of a slide, but it goes without saying that any other shape, such as a groove, adapted to guide the sliding of the storage support is conceivable.

Referring to Figures 1 and 3, the armrest 2 is mounted on the main body 1 so as to cover the compartment 11. The armrest 2 extends from front to back along the longitudinal axis XX. To access compartment 11, the armrest 2 is rotatably mounted relative to the main body 1 around the axis of rotation YY located at a rear part of the armrest 2. The armrest 2 pivots around the axis of rotation YY between a closed position in which the armrest 2 covers the storage compartment 11 and an open position in the armrest 2 is lifted, leaving free access to the compartment 11. Thus, by lifting the front of the armrest 2, the upper opening of the storage compartment 11 is accessible, which allows the driver or a passenger to access the compartment 11 in order to deposit an object in the compartment 11 or else to remove an object therefrom.

The armrest 2 is rotatably mounted relative to the main body 1 by a hinge located at a rear part of the armrest 2. A first part 21 of the hinge is integral with the armrest 2 and a second part 14 is integral with the main body 1.

The part 21 integral with the armrest 2 comprises second means for guiding the storage support. Such second guide means comprise at least one groove 22 extending parallel to the slide 13 of the main body 1 when the armrest 2 is in the closed position as illustrated in FIG. 3. Second guide means have been presented under the shape of a groove 22, but it goes without saying that any other shape, such as a slide, adapted to guide the sliding of the storage support is conceivable.

The storage support is slidably mounted at the rear of the armrest 2. The storage support is therefore secured to the armrest 2 and is deployed at the rear of the armrest 2 in order to allow seated passengers on the rear seats to deposit objects on said storage support 3. In the embodiment shown in Figures 1 to 3, the storage support is in the form of a cup holder 3, also designated "cupholder> > in the English language, suitable for receiving a can C, but it goes without saying that it could be in any other form, in particular an electronic device support such as a tablet or a smartphone.

The cup holder 3 extends longitudinally between a storage end 31 on which a passenger can deposit a can C and a locking end 32 adapted to slide in the slides 13 of the main body 1. The cup holder 3 is adapted to slide between a storage position in which the cup holder 3 is stored inside the central console 10 and a deployed position in which the storage end 31 is deployed outside the central console 10 in order to allow Advantageously, the cup holder 3 is in the form of a plate or of a flattened shape in order to minimize its bulk in the storage position. The sides of the cup holder 3 are adapted to cooperate with the first and second guide means in order to slide from front to back. The storage end 31 may include an opening in which the passenger can put a can C.

When the cup holder 3 is in the storage position, the blocking end 32 slides towards the front of the slides 13 of the main body 1 until it leaves in order to release the rotation of the armrest 2. Otherwise said, when the cup holder 3 is in the storage position, the armrest 2 can pivot in order to switch between its closed and open positions.

The central console 10 further comprises means for blocking the rotation of the armrest 2. These locking means comprise the slides 13 of the main body

1, the grooves 22 of the armrest 2 and the blocking end 32 of the cup holder 3. The slides 13 and the grooves 22 form rails in which the blocking end 32 of the cup holder 3 slides.

When deploying the cup holder 3, the armrest 2 being in the closed position, the locking end 32 slides first in the slides 13 of the main body 1 then engages and slides in the grooves 22 of the part of the hinge secured to the armrest 2 due to the alignment of the grooves 22 with the slides 13 of the main body 1. When the cup holder 3 is deployed, its locking end 32 extends both in the slides 13 of the main body 1 and in the grooves 22 of the armrest 2, which has the effect of blocking the hinge. Thus, when the cup holder 3 is deployed, the armrest 2 is locked in the closed position and can no longer pivot around the axis of rotation YY due to the blocking of the hinge.

By locking the armrest 2 in the closed position when the cup holder 3 is in the deployed position, any overturning of the can C by the armrest 2 is prevented. The object of the invention is therefore to lock the armrest when an object is placed on the cup holder 3 at the rear of the central console 10. Thus, it is possible to provide a cup holder 3 to improve life aboard rear seat passengers.

As illustrated in Figures 1 to 2, the center console 1 further comprises a ventilation nozzle 4 at the rear of the armrest 2 in order to ventilate the air at the rear seats.

Claims (10)

  1. Claims:
    1. central console (10) of vehicle (100), said central console (10) comprising a main body (1), an armrest (2) rotatably mounted relative to said main body (1) between an open position and a position closed, and a storage support (3) slidably mounted at the rear of said armrest (2) between a storage position and a deployed position, said central console (10) being characterized in that it comprises locking means ( 13, 22, 32) of the armrest (2) in the closed position when the storage support (3) is in the deployed position.
  2. 2. Console (10) according to claim 1, wherein, the armrest extending along a longitudinal axis (XX), the storage support (3) is integral with the armrest (2) and mounted sliding along said axis longitudinal (XX) of the armrest (2).

Console (10) according to the preceding claim, wherein the armrest (2) is rotatably mounted, preferably at its rear portion corresponding to the end of the armrest (2) on the side by which the support storage (3) is adapted to be deployed around a transverse axis (YY) orthogonal to said longitudinal axis (XX) of the armrest (2).

Console (10) according to one of the preceding claims, in which the storage support (3) comprising a locking end (32), said locking means comprising first guide means (13) arranged in the body main (1), second guide means (22) arranged in the armrest (2) and said locking end (32) adapted to slide in said first and second guide means (13, 22), said first and second guide means (13, 22) are configured to be aligned when the armrest (2) is in the closed position so that, in the deployed position of the storage support (3), said locking end (32) of the support storage (3) is engaged in both the first and second guide means (13, 22) so as to lock the armrest (2) in the closed position.
  5. 5. Console (10) according to the preceding claim, wherein, the armrest (2) being mounted on the main body (1) by a hinge, said second guide means (22) are arranged in a part of said integral hinge of the armrest (2).
  6. 6. Console (10) according to one of claims 4 to 5, wherein the first guide means comprise at least one slide (13) arranged on the main body (1) and the second guide means comprise at least one groove (22) hollowed out in the armrest (2).

  7. 7. Console (10) according to one of the preceding claims, in which the storage support is a cup holder (3).
  8. 8. Console (10) according to one of claims 1 to 6, wherein the storage support is a support for electronic device, preferably for a tablet or smartphone.
