AUTOMOBILEAUTOMOBILE

The present invention relates to a device for monitoring a child by a passenger of a motor vehicle.

It relates more particularly to a device for monitoring a child by a passenger of a motor vehicle such as the driver, the child being installed rearward facing in a seat surmounting a rear seat of the vehicle, comprising a first reflection element integral with the headrest associated with said seat and a second reflection element, these elements being able to be oriented so as to allow the observation of the child by the passenger without the latter diverting his attention from the road scene.

A device of this type is presented in document FR 2 725 670. Such a known device comprises a reflection element such as a mirror which is fixed to a headrest of the rear seat of a motor vehicle. The reflection element is well provided with means for adjusting its orientation towards the front of the vehicle. On the other hand, the permanent presence of such a visible reflection element inside the motor vehicle 20 is particularly unsightly and the operations consisting in retracting it when it is not used are extremely tedious.

The object of the present invention is to overcome the above drawbacks by proposing a monitoring device which does not affect the interior aesthetics of the vehicle and is very convenient to use.

To this end, the subject of the present invention is a device for monitoring a child by a passenger of a motor vehicle such as the driver, the child being installed rearward facing in a seat surmounting a rear seat of the vehicle , comprising a first reflection element secured to the headrest associated with said seat and a second reflection element, these elements being able to be oriented so as to allow the observation of the child by the passenger without the latter diverting his attention to the road scene, characterized in that the headrest can occupy a rest position in which the first reflection element is hidden from the front and an active position in which the first reflection element is oriented towards the front of the vehicle.

The invention may also include one or more of the following characteristics: - the headrest is articulated on the upper part of the backrest between its rest position in which the headrest is pressed against the backrest, sandwiching the first reflection element, and an active position in which the headrest is deployed above the backrest by pivoting at an angle substantially greater than 90 relative to its rest position, so as to uncover the first reflection element , - The headrest has the general shape of an L, the branches of which substantially follow the upper part and an adjacent area of the front face of the backrest when the headrest is placed in its rest position, - the first reflection element is fixed to one of the front or rear faces of the headrest, the selection of the rest position or of the active position of the headrest being effected by turning it over 1800 around the direction of vertical adjustment of the headrest, - the first reflection element is adjustable by modifying the inclination and / or the height of the headrest relative to the backrest, - the device for monitoring comprises removable covering means of the first reflection element, the first reflection element is a mirror having a convex reflecting surface conferring a field of vision greater than that of a mirror with a plane reflecting surface.

Other characteristics and advantages of the invention will appear more clearly on reading a particular but not exhaustive embodiment of the invention and in the light of the appended drawings in which: - Figure 1 shows the profile of a motor vehicle provided with a child monitoring device according to the invention, - Figures 2 and 3 are enlarged views of a headrest shown in Figure 1, provided with a child monitoring device according to a first embodiment of the invention, shown respectively in the rest position and in the active position, and - Figures 4 and 5 are views of a headrest provided with a monitoring device for a child following a second embodiment of the invention, shown respectively in the rest position and in the active position.

FIG. 1 shows a motor vehicle 20 provided with a device for monitoring a child by a passenger of a motor vehicle.

In a relatively widespread configuration, in particular for young children, the child is installed rearward facing in a seat 1 attached above a rear seat 25 2 of the vehicle.

In a known manner, a first reflection element 3 is integral with the headrest 4 associated with the seat 2. The monitoring device also includes a second reflection element 5, such as the conventional interior mirror of the vehicle, towards which the passenger turns his gaze to obtain the image of the first reflection element 3.

According to the invention, the headrest 4 can occupy a rest position in which the first reflection element 3 is hidden when viewed from the front and an active position in which the first reflection element 3 is oriented towards the front of the 5 vehicle so that the image of the child can be returned to the second reflection element 5.

The monitoring device according to the invention can cover several embodiments, two of which are detailed below.

In a first embodiment, with reference to Figures 2 and 3, the headrest 4 may have the shape of an inverted L.

The two branches of L respectively marry the upper part and an adjacent zone of the front face of the backrest 6 when the headrest 4 is placed in its rest position 15 (FIG. 2). The first reflection element 3 is fixed on the branch of L coming to bear against the front face of the backrest 6. More precisely, the first reflection element 3 is fixed on the face of said branch which is oriented towards the second branch of L The first reflection element 3 is in this way hidden since it is sandwiched between the backrest 6 and the headrest 4 when the latter 4 is in its rest position.

The headrest 4 is articulated on the upper part of the backrest 6 around an axis 46 of rotation, making it possible to move the headrest 4 from its rest position to an active position (FIG. 3) in which it is deployed above the backrest 6, pivoting at an angle substantially greater than 90 relative to its rest position. The first reflection element 3 can thus be discovered and oriented towards the front of the vehicle.

It will be noted that very advantageously, the headrest 4 can be adjusted in height and in orientation relative to the backrest 6, which makes it possible to adapt the monitoring device to the size and position of the child and of the passenger watching him.

In a second embodiment of the invention, with reference to FIGS. 4 and 5, the headrest 4 is fixed to the upper part of the backrest 6 via conventional fixing means, of the type comprising two pins integral with the headrest 4 5 threaded into corresponding openings provided on the backrest 6.

The first reflection element 3 is fixed to one of the faces of the headrest 4. In the rest position of the headrest 4, the first reflection element 3 is oriented towards the rear of the vehicle, so as to be masked when viewed from the front.

In the active position of the headrest 4, it is returned to 1800 around the vertical adjustment direction of the headrest 4, relative to its rest position, after having been removed from the upper part of the backrest 6. In this way, S5 the first reflection element 3 is oriented towards the front of the vehicle.

It will be noted that in this embodiment also, it is possible to adjust the position of the first reflection element 3 to adapt it to the morphology and the position of the child and / or the passenger. This adjustment is carried out by modifying the inclination and / or the vertical position of the headrest 4 relative to the backrest 6.

In addition, it will be noted that in the two embodiments of the invention, removable covering means (not shown) of the first reflection element 3 can be provided, for example synthetic means matched with the lining of the support. head 6 in order to protect the first reflection element 3 or to preserve the interior aesthetics of the vehicle in the event that the monitoring device is not used.

In addition, the first reflection element 3 may have a convex surface giving a field of vision greater than that of a flat surface in order to cover a maximum surveillance zone at the location of the rear seat of the vehicle.

Of course, the invention is not limited to the embodiments which have just been described and includes all the technical equivalents of the means presented.
