Abstract

The door retainer for a door or window comprises a lever (18) whose upper end (19) is fixed by a pivot (21) which is itself mounted to slide in a groove (22) in the rebate of the door frame. The lower end of this lever (23) is intended to cooperage with a hook (24) mounted on the opening door panel. There is an elastic support mounted on the upper end of the lever (18) to act upon it. The lever itself has a symmetrical configuration w.r.t. its median vertical plane , and also includes an index device which ensures that the elastic support is able to urge the lever back to its vertical position. The structure of the lever is such that it is reversible.

Description

The invention relates to a door, window or the like

  comprising a lever, one end of which is mounted by means of a rebate support on the front upright of the frame or of the opening, this, on the one hand, in an articulated manner, allowing said lever to pivot around a parallel axis in the plane of the door, window or the like and perpendicular to said upright and, on the other hand, slidingly parallel to the longitudinal direction of the latter in a groove provided for this purpose in said support, while the opposite end of this lever is able to cooperate with an operable hooking member by means of a control button and mounted, as the case may be, on

opening or sleeping.

  The present invention will find its application in the field

of the building hardware.

  Due to a growing feeling of insecurity justified, moreover, by a constant increase in the number of burglaries and other acts of violence, one is more and more aware of the interest of protecting one's home by various systems of security. However, if it is possible to recognize, visually and by the use of appropriate devices, such as a peephole, a visitor ringing or knocking on a locked door, it is very difficult, under these conditions, to converse with the foreign person in order to know the object of his visit. In fact, for

  this it is necessary to unlock the door and to open it.

  However, at this point it is desirable that a second security system comes into operation to prevent a malicious visitor from entering the house without great difficulty. For this purpose, it is customary to call on a cracker

  the most common of which are chain systems.

  It is, in fact, a chain, one end of which is fixed, by means of a support, to the internal side of the front upright of the frame, while the opposite end comprises a locking stud intended for to cooperate with a keeper in the form of a buttonhole placed on the opening. Thus, after unlocking the door, the length of the chain limits the opening angle of the door. It is also known of other types of stay-openers arranged as a surface on the internal side of the door or window. Thus, according to a design similar to the chain system described above, there is a spacer comprising an arm pivotally mounted on the amount of the frame and which, in the locked position, cooperates, in a sliding manner, with a hooking member placed on the 'opening. In this case it is indeed the length of the arm or, very precisely, the mobility of the latter relative to the attachment member which limits the opening angle of the door or window. If such interlocks respond, in themselves, to the safety problem mentioned, they appear somewhat unsightly because of their surface mounting. In addition, this type of pose can pose

  problems with overlapping rebate.

  In order to respond to these problems, we have imagined a cracker capable of taking up a position in the rebate of the door, window or the like. Thus, there is a stay including a lever which, in the case of a door, has an end mounted, both hinged and sliding, on a support reported in rabbet on the front amount of the frame. Said lever can then pivot about a horizontal axis parallel to the plane of the door or window while sliding longitudinally in a

  vertical groove arranged in said support.

  The opposite end of this lever comprises, for its part, an opening adjusted to the passage of a locking member capable of being projecting relative to the vertical edge before opening it under the action of a maneuverable control button. on the side

internal.

  More specifically, when the opening is closed and by operating the aforementioned control button, the locking member engages in the corresponding opening of the lever. Then, when opening the sash, the lever, initially in the vertical position, swings forward, towards the sash, while, simultaneously, its end secured to the frame slides, longitudinally in the groove provided in the support fixed in

rebate of this frame.

  It is important to understand that the connection at the frame is necessarily, both sliding and pivoting, due to the overlap of the opening relative to said frame. Indeed, a lever, exclusively tilting, could not escape the overlapping rim so that it could not play its role of breather. It is also for this reason that the previously known solution leads to a certain number of drawbacks which are

present described.

  Thus, in the rest position, the lever is necessarily in the vertical position so that it can be erased in the rebate and allow the opening of the opening. However, in such a vertical position and under the action of its own weight, the end of the lever, sliding mounted, is necessarily located at the lower end of the groove. Also, the only means so that, on the one hand, when closing the opening, the latching member can cooperate with the opening provided, for this purpose, in said lever and that, on the other hand, in this position, the end of said lever cooperating with this latching member is able to move in a horizontal plane, it is necessary that the vertical rest position of the lever, the lower end of the latter is that made integral of the frame and capable of sliding vertically and upwards in the groove provided for this purpose, while the upper end is that comprising the opening capable of accommodating said attachment member. However, it is obvious that in such conditions the lever is in an unstable equilibrium position. Indeed, the slightest angular offset can cause the

  tilting of said lever in a reverse position.

  In order to respond to the problem, we have imagined equipping the support, in the lower part of the vertical groove which equips it, with a positioning keeper in which is housed.

  However, it is well understood that in the event of a false operation while the opening is open, this again results in the imbalance of the lever and its tilting in a position making the operation of the stay open impossible, or even preventing closing the opening. In addition, it should be noted that this imbalance of the lever can be caused by the latching member itself if the latter is brought into a position of

  locking while the door is open.

  In conclusion, a spacer of this type, although being arranged in rebate, does not meet the requirements in the

  especially in terms of convenience of use.

  Quite the contrary, it creates additional discomfort which, possibly, can cause improper locking of the door, window or the like. Therefore, the security gain seems all

quite questionable.

  The present invention proposes to remedy the aforementioned drawbacks. To this end, the invention relates to a stay for door, window or the like comprising a lever, one end of which is mounted by means of a support, in rebate on the amount of the frame or of the opening, this, on the one hand , in an articulated manner, allowing said lever to pivot about an axis parallel to the plane of the door, window or the like and perpendicular to said upright and, on the other hand, slidingly parallel to the longitudinal direction of the latter in a groove provided for this purpose in said support while the opposite end of this lever is able to cooperate with a hooking member which can be operated by means of a control button mounted, as the case may be, on the opening or the frame, characterized in that in the rest position, the lever extends vertically into the rebate of the front upright of the frame or of the opening so that its end, intended to cooperate with the latching member, is located at s has lower part, while the opposite end is pushed back, under the action of elastic return means, in part in abutment

  upper part of the groove in which it is slidably mounted.

  The advantages obtained thanks to this invention consist in that the lever, in its rest position, is in a stable equilibrium position since it is suspended by its upper end. In addition, as soon as the action having removed it from its vertical position ceases, this lever automatically returns to this rest position. This has the advantage that in no case can the lever occupy a position preventing the opening from closing. In addition, it is observed that if it is moved from its rest position under the action of the fastening member having been operated while the opening being in the open position, the simple maneuver consisting in causing the erasure of the fastening member, then to bring it back to the projecting position, leads to activate, again, the stay. In fact, during this maneuver, the lever could have returned to its initial position so as to present its

  opening to the right of said attachment member.

  Other objects and advantages of the present invention will become apparent

  during the following description relating to a mode of

  realization which is given only by way of indicative and nonlimiting example.

  Understanding this description will be facilitated by

  The present invention relates to a door ajar i of window, window or the like having been represented under different

  views in Figures 1 to 5 of the accompanying drawings.

  Thus, this ajar 1 is more particularly intended to take a position in the rebate 8 of this door or window. At this

  presentation of the invention applied to a door insofar as it is, there, the use that will be made, most commonly, of such a stay 1. However, it has been clearly understood that the invention is in no way limited to such an application since it can

  find utility for any type of opening.

  In addition, this ajar 1, arranged in rabbet 2, is of very particular interest when the opening 3 is partially overlapping the frame 4. More specifically, this opening 3 has, at the periphery, a flange 5 which is applied on the side internal 6

  of the frame 4 in the closed position of said door.

  Thus, the stay 1 comprises a support 7 mounted in the rebate 8 of the upright 9 of the frame 4, perpendicular to the plane of the door. In this regard, this support 7 can be made integral by any suitable fixing means 11 of this amount 9 of the frame 4, such as screws, rivets or the like. In the accompanying drawings, an embodiment is illustrated, in particular, of these fixing means 11, in the form of screws 12 which, being accessible from the outside when the leaf 3 is ajar as shown in FIG. 5 , are made non-removable by means of rotation blocking means 13 accessible only from inside the house. By way of example corresponding to the embodiment illustrated in the figures, the screws 12 have their

  head 14 embedded in millings 15 arranged at the support 7.

  In addition, a pin 16 is engaged in a perforation 17 machined in this support 7, perpendicular to the axis of the millings 15 while crossing the latter. Thus, after the engagement of the screws 12, said pin 16 is introduced into its perforation 17 by passing over the heads 14 of screws 12 preventing the latter from being unscrewed. As already specified above, other solutions are, of course, conceivable and the invention is in no way limited to

the one presented.

  The ajar 1 further comprises a lever 18, one end 19 of which is both mounted in an articulated and sliding manner on the support 7. Thus, this lever 18 is able to pivot around a parallel axis 20 to the plane 10 of the door while being perpendicular to the upright 9 of the frame 4. In addition, the articulation pivot 21 of the lever 18 is itself slidably mounted in a groove 22 arranged longitudinally and therefore vertically in

support 7.

  At its opposite end 23, the lever 18 is able to cooperate with a hooking member 24 which can be operated by means of a control button or the like 25 mounted on the side

internal 26 of the opening 3.

  According to a preferred embodiment illustrated in the accompanying drawings, the control button 25 acts, by means of an operating square 27, on a follower 28 located in a housing 29 embedded in the front edge 30 of the opening 3. Thus, under the influence of the rotation of the control button 25, the follower 28 attacks the latching member 24, in the form of a bolt moving in the plane of the opening 3 so as to be present, as the case may be, in a projecting position or in a retracted position with respect to said front edge 30 of this opening 3. It should be noted that in the case of the opening of the opening 3 of a cremone bolt or locking bolt comprising a headrest 31 extending over the entire height of this edge before 30 of the opening 3, the housing 29 can be made integral with this headrest 31, the latter comprising, moreover, an opening 32 allowing the passage of the bolt

  corresponding to the attachment member 24.

  The latter is preferably of rectangular section and has a narrowing 33 in its part 34 capable of being projecting relative to the edge 30 of the opening 3. Thus, when this hooking member 24 comes to cooperate with the end 23 of the lever 18, more precisely, when its part 34 is engaged in the oblong opening 35 formed for this purpose in this end 23 of the lever 18 it fulfills the function of a button in

a buttonhole.

  Under these conditions, at the time of activating the stay the hooking member 24 and the oblong opening 35 of the lever 18, are in the same vertical alignment. Then, by opening the opening 3, the lever 18 rocks around its pivot axis 20 while its end 23 pivots around the constriction 33 corresponding to the hooking member 24. The latter is no longer in the extension oblong opening 35 corresponding to this lever 18, it can not be removed voluntarily, either by a

  direct action on said lever 18 or on the attachment member 24.

  It can be seen that, due to the constraints linked to an assembly in the rebate of the bridle 1, the vertical median plane 36 of the support 7 and of its lever 18 is not necessarily located in the plane

  median of the fastening member 24 once the opening 3 closed.

  Also, the oblong opening 35 is offset with respect to this median plane 36. However, to allow, despite this, a reversibility of the stay 1 and, therefore, its mounting on the left or on the right, the lever 18, preferably comprises a symmetrical configuration and, therefore, it comprises two oblong openings 35, 35A arranged on either side of the median plane 36 and able to accommodate

an attachment member 24.

  In view of the above description, it is well understood that the

  mounting, both pivoting and sliding, of the lever 18 relative to the frame 4 is necessary to allow the tilting of said lever 18 without this movement being hampered by the covering flange 5 corresponding to the opening 3. However, the we observe, moreover, that once the ajar activated, that is to say that the latching member 24 is brought to cooperate with the end 23 of the lever 18, this end 23 of said lever 18 does maybe

  move in a horizontal plane when opening the opening 3.

  In addition, it is essential, when bringing the latching member 24 into its locking position, that it is well opposite the oblong opening 35 corresponding to the lever 18, then

in the rest position.

  To achieve this result and remedy the drawbacks corresponding to the state of the art, as presented in the

  introductory part of the description the lever 18, in the position

  rest, is suspended vertically by its end 19 secured to the support 7 so that its end 23 intended to cooperate with the fastening member 24 is located at its lower part, while elastic return means 37 push said end 19 off this lever 18 in abutment 38 in the upper part 39 of the groove 22. By adopting such a rest position more particularly illustrated in FIGS. 2 and 3, the lever 18 is in a stable equilibrium position. This means that by deliberately or not removing the lever 18 from this vertical rest position, it can return to its original position under the influence

of its own weight.

  However, it can be provided, in combination, that this cooperation of the upper end 19 of the lever 18 with the stop 38 against which it is pushed under the influence of the elastic return means 37, contributes to the return to the vertical position of the lever 18. In fact, one can imagine that the reduced weight of the lever 18 or the friction encountered, whether with respect to the stop 38 or at the level of the articulation pivot 21, does not allow this lever 18 to systematically resume its substantially vertical position so that the opening 35 fitted to its end 23 is, from time to time, offset with respect to the latching member 24. The indexing means 40 making it possible to exclude this risk, are constituted by one end 19 of lever 18 and a stop 38 intended to cooperate with the latter thus determined: - when the lever 18 is in its vertical rest position, its end 19 defines with the stop 38 at least two contact zones 41, 42 lying symmetrically on either side of the vertical median plane 36 of this lever 18; - And when said lever 18 is moved away from this vertical rest position, this end 19 defines with the stop 38 a single contact area 41 (or 42) offset with respect to the vertical median plane 36 generating, at this lever 18 and under the influence of the elastic return means 37, a return torque in the vertical rest position until the two zones of

contact 41, 42 are restored.

  Consequently, whatever the action which pushes the lever 18 so as to move it away from its vertical position, as soon as this action disappears, said lever 18 systematically returns to its initial rest position. More particularly, in the event that, inadvertently, the user brings the latching member 24 into its projecting position even when the opening leaf 3 is open, at the time of closing the said latching member 24 comes to push back the lever 18. Under these conditions, if one wishes to activate the stay 1, it suffices, firstly, to unlock the latching member 24 causing the lever 18 to return to its vertical rest position so that its oblong opening 35 then comes to be positioned in front of said member

  hooking 24 which can again be locked.

  As shown in the attached drawings, the elastic return means 37 are preferably located in the upper extension of the groove 22, in a housing 43 provided for this purpose at the support 7. They are, moreover, advantageously constituted by a helical spring, one end of which cooperates with hooking means 44 located in the bottom of the housing 43, while the opposite end is made integral with the end 19 of the lever 18, preferably with its

  articulation pivot 21 slidably mounted in the groove 22.

  In view of the above description, it is well understood that if

  is planned to mount the support 7 of the stay 1 on the amount of the frame 4, one can also consider a reverse arrangement, consisting in equipping the opening of the support 7 on which is pivotally mounted and sliding the lever 18 which is able to cooperate with a hooking member whose mechanism is mounted on said

frame 9 of the frame 4.

Claims (8)

Claims   1. A door, window or the like, including a lever (18), one end (19) of which is mounted, by means of a support (7), in rebate (8) on the upright (9) of the frame (4 ) or of the opening (3), this, on the one hand, in an articulated manner allowing said lever (18) to pivot around an axis (20) parallel to the plane (10) of the door, window or the like and perpendicular to said upright (9) and, on the other hand, sliding parallel to the longitudinal direction of the latter in a groove (22) provided for this purpose in said support (7), while the opposite end (23) of this lever (18) is able to cooperate with a hooking member (24) which can be operated by means of a control button (25) mounted, as the case may be, on the leaf (3) or the frame (4), characterized by the fact that in the rest position, the lever (18) extends vertically in the rebate (8) of the upright (9) of the frame (4) or of the opening (3) so that his extremi tee (23), intended to cooperate with the hooking member (24), is located at its lower part, while the opposite end (19) is pushed back, under the action of elastic return means (37) in abutment (38) in the upper part (39) of the groove (22) in which it is slidably mounted. 2. A spacer according to claim 1, characterized in that the elastic return means (37) are located in the upper extension of the groove (22), in a housing (43)   provided for this purpose at the support (7).   3. Crank according to claim 2, characterized in that the elastic return means (37) consist of a helical spring, one end of which cooperates with hooking means (44) located in the bottom of the housing (43) , while the opposite end is made integral with the end (19) of the lever (18), preferably the articulation pivot (21) of this   last mounted sliding in the groove (22).   4. A spacer according to any one of claims 1 to   3, characterized in that the lever (18) comprises, at its end (23), an oblong opening (35) which, in the vertical position of rest and the opening (3) closed is positioned in line with the hooking member (24) in the form of a locking bolt.   5. A spacer according to any one of claims   previous, characterized in that the fastening member (24) is of rectangular section and has a narrowing (33) in its part (34) capable of being projecting relative to the front edge (30) of the opening (3), around this constriction (33) being   able to pivot the end (23) of the lever (18).   6. A spacer according to any one of claims   above, characterized by the fact that the lever (18) has a configuration symmetrical with respect to a vertical median plane (36) allowing the reversibility of said stay (1) for mounting on the left or right on the frame (4) or depending on the case, the opening (3).   7. A spacer according to any one of the claims   above, characterized in that it includes indexing means (40) contributing to the return to the vertical position of the   lever (18) under the impulse of the elastic return means (37).   8. A spacer according to claim 7, characterized in that the indexing means (40) consist of an end (19) of lever (18) and a stop (38), intended to cooperate with the latter, which are thus determined: - when the lever (18) is in its vertical rest position, its end (19) defines with the stop (38) at least two contact zones (41, 42) lying symmetrically on either side the vertical median plane (36) of this lever (18); - And when said lever (18) is moved away from this vertical rest position, this end (19) defines with the stop (38) a single contact zone (41) or (42) offset from the vertical median plane (36 ) generating, at this lever (18) and under the influence of the elastic return means (37), a return torque in the vertical rest position until the two zones   contact (41, 42) are restored.
