Abstract
Description
- la fermentation: la densimétrie permet d'évaluer le stade instantané de l'évolution de la réaction biologique;
- les réactions chimiques avec dégagement gazeux: la densimétrie est une indication quant au niveau de réaction des produits;
- les mélanges : la densimétrie contrôle le pilotage ou le suivi d'un système en cours de mélange (saumure, sirop, gaz + liquide, ...);
The present invention relates to a device for measuring the density or density of a chemically stable or fermenting liquid contained in an enclosure. The density measurement mainly intervenes in the control of the following industrial processes, continuous or discontinuous, of transformation:
- fermentation: densimetry makes it possible to evaluate the instantaneous stage of the evolution of the biological reaction;
- chemical reactions with gassing: densimetry is an indication of the reaction level of the products;
- mixtures: densimetry controls the control or monitoring of a system being mixed (brine, syrup, gas + liquid, ...);
- emulsions: densimetry controls the state of mixing of the phases.
On distingue notamment:
Known devices for measuring the density or density of a liquid are classified into four families. We distinguish in particular:
- manual hydrometers: a kind of floats or direct reading ludions,
- derivative flow densimeters with remote reading: vibrating tube densimeter, gamma ray, floating section,
- submerged hydrometers with a vibrating blade or a pressure difference measurement,
- hydrometers for gas evolution.
The main drawbacks of these hydrometers lie in particular in their difficult reading, in their delicate use, in the measurement made on a sample taken, in the price of the device, and in its cost of installation on the process.
The present invention therefore aims to overcome these drawbacks by proposing a measurement device which does not disturb the medium in which it is immersed and which allows continuous measurement on the product and not on a sample taken.
To this end, the device for measuring the density of a liquid, object of the invention, is characterized in that it comprises an enclosure, each of the ends of which is closed by a wall, each of these walls cooperating by its internal surface of a transmission member, connected to the movable part of a strain gauge force sensor, the fixed part of the force sensor remaining integral with said enclosure, the latter being immersed in a tank filled with a liquid of which we want to measure the density.
Other characteristics and advantages of the present invention will emerge from the description given below, with reference to the appended drawings which illustrate an embodiment thereof devoid of any limiting character.

According to a preferred embodiment of the device for measuring the density or density of a liquid, object of the present invention, essentially comprises an enclosure 1, advantageously shaped as a tube of straight cross section, in particular circular, the walls of which are rigid; in addition, these walls are made of a material approved by the regulations in force in the food industry, such as P.V.C., stainless steel, etc.
This enclosure 1 is provided at each of its ends 2, 3 with a wall 4, flexible, elastic, but not plastic, advantageously of equal surface.
This wall 4, according to a first embodiment, is produced in the form of a membrane 5 made of natural or synthetic latex and which sealingly obstructs said enclosure 1; thus, provision is made to secure each membrane 5 at each end of the enclosure by means of a collar 6.
According to a second embodiment, said enclosure 1 is devoid of membranes 5, and the obturation wall 4 is constituted by the external face of a plate 7. In order to guarantee the tightness of enclosure 1, the field of each of the plates 7 disposed at the end of said enclosure 1, in a groove, a seal such as in particular an O-ring or a lip seal.
Inside the enclosure, there are two transmission members 8, 9, each of them being formed by a plate 7 and at least one rod 10 projecting perpendicularly to the internal face of said plate 7.
The external face of each plate 7 is, according to the chosen embodiment of the wall 4 for closing the enclosure 1, placed opposite the tensioned membrane 5 or the liquid. In a design using a membrane 5, the internal face of each of them is in contact with the external face of each of the plates 7. Each of the plates 7 thus positioned inside the enclosure 1 is guided and moves in translation, without friction, along the longitudinal axis as a function of variations in the position of said membranes 5.
Furthermore, each of the rods 10 coming from each of the plates 7, forming the transmission member 8, 9, is connected by means of known means (screwing, riveting, bonding, crimping, etc.) to a stirrup 11.
All of the elements constituted by the plates 7, the rods 10 and the stirrup 11, are made of a material which provides sufficient mass and rigidity taking into account the mechanical stresses which are exerted on each of the front walls, particularly these elements may be made of aluminum, or of an aluminum alloy or of a synthetic resin based on a polymer of methyl methacrylate, or of a polyethylene terephthalate or of a polyethylene naphthalate.
Furthermore, the stirrup 11 is integral with the movable part 12 of a force sensor 13 provided with strain gauges 14, the fixed part 15 being connected inside the enclosure 1 and placed opposite the part mobile 12. It is known that the strain gauges 14 when they are subjected to mechanical deformations, in particular of compression, torsion, or bending, see their impedance vary according to the intensity of these mechanical stresses, it therefore suffices to carry out an adequate electrical mounting of these gauges 14, in particular in balanced or unbalanced bridge to record these variations in impedance.
Thus, if two transmission members 8, 9 are used opposite one another in an enclosure 1 provided with two membranes 5 cooperating with said members 8, 9, the rods 10 coming from each of the plates 7 being included in planes parallel to each other, and connected to the same stirrup 11, the force sensor 13 will be subjected to compression forces originating from the forces generated by the pressure of the liquid on the front walls of the enclosure constituted by the membranes or by the external face said plates.
We can also, to ensure permanent contact of the membrane 5 with the transmission member 8, 9, interpose between the outer face of this member and the inner face of the membrane 5, a layer of foam.
According to another embodiment of the device which is the subject of the invention, it is possible to remove one of the transmission members and in particular at the level of the rod 10 thereof and directly place the stirrup 11 in contact with the wall 4, this stirrup 11 being connected to the movable part 12 of the force sensor 13.
By considering the following parameters: - MI: mass of one of the transmission members; - M2: mass of the other transmission member - Spi: surface of one of the membranes; - S2: surface of the other membrane; -HI: immersed height of one of the membranes; - H2: submerged height of the other membrane; - p: density of the liquid; - P0: density of water; - d: density of the liquid; - g: acceleration of gravity; - R: resultant acting on the force sensor; -È1: force exerted on one of the membranes; -È2: force exerted on the other membrane; - Pl: weight of one of the transmission members; - P2: weight of the other transmission member; it is possible to determine R by solving the following vector equation R + É1 + È2 + Pi + P2 = The forces exerted on the membranes are essentially pressure forces (F = PS) where P represents the prevailing static pressure in the volume. (The term dynamic pressure will be neglected, given that the volume in which said device is immersed is large enough for the speed of the liquid to be almost zero in the vicinity of the membranes or walls).
The evolution of the density as a function of the forces exerted on the membranes 5 is obtained by projection on the three axes of the space of this equation. This equation projected on a vertical axis becomes (the projections on the other two axes are all zero or cancel each other out)
In this equation, the weight of the various transmission members may not be taken into account by appropriate adjustment of the electronics of the measuring device and particularly at its point of origin.
et l'équation devient:
avec d =
Po
with d =
Po
From this equation, it is deduced that if the device, object of the invention, is placed in an enclosure containing a liquid whose density or density is to be determined, by having construction hypothesis fixed H1 W H2, and S1 = S2, the density is directly proportional to the resultant R.
The value of the resultant R is provided by the strain gauge force sensor.
The device for measuring the density or density of a liquid, object of the invention, implements this equation. Depending on the intended applications, two membranes immersed in the liquid at different levels will be used, or two membranes with different surfaces immersed at the same level.
Preferably, the enclosure 1 includes an orifice 16 for the passage of all of the input and output wires necessary for supplying the electronics and for exploiting the measurement signal coming from the force sensor 13 to strain gauges 14. This orifice 16 according to another embodiment of the invention is provided with a vent hose for the possible establishment of a back pressure on the walls.
The hydrometer, object of the invention, offers multiple advantages: first of all, it is insensitive to the viscosity of the liquid in which it is immersed. It is simple to maintain, which guarantees environmental hygiene. Furthermore, its purchase and installation cost is not at all comparable and is much lower than that of flow-rate hydrometers or submerged hydrometers known from the prior art.
It remains to be understood that the present invention is not limited to the exemplary embodiments described and shown above, but that it encompasses all variants thereof.
