Description

The present invention relates to a coating for sports grounds and the like, as well as to a process for producing sports and playgrounds from such a coating.

The soils on which athletes play are, most of the time, borrowed from industrial or road foundations; however, the athlete, the tennis man or others, are not related to a machine or a truck. They are human beings, who often evolve in an abnormal way.

Achieving a good floor covering for sports use (athletic tracks, tennis courts, gymnastic mats, etc.) is not easy; in fact, by virtue of their particular and very varied conditions of use, these coatings must meet a certain number of requirements, which can be classified in several categories.

Sporting requirements first of all: the ground must allow a call to be taken. For this, he must be able to withstand sudden and violent pressures and work in conditions such that muscular work has good efficiency. If the ground should not be a springboard, it should not however thwart the effort of the athlete. It is therefore not necessary that it sinks too much under the push, nor that the elasticity plays at the wrong time. It is said that the soil must have a good "restitution over time". It must also allow sudden changes and sudden stops without causing falls. Finally, an athlete should not be bothered by another athlete hitting the ground near him; the deformation, during an impact, must therefore be very localized.

To meet all these requirements, attempts have already been made to make coatings comprising three layers - a lower layer, in contact with the ground and designed so as to absorb
shocks - an intermediate layer, ensuring the distribution of shocks; and, - an upper layer, receiving the impact of shocks.

These known coatings are satisfactory; however, they must be improved, in particular with a view to adapting the soil to sporting and human requirements, while preserving or delaying fatigue, without compromising efficiency, which is often incompatible.

The idea behind this invention is to increase the receiving surface of the foot for better weight distribution, thanks to a rigid surface resting on a very flexible mass. Indeed, a sports flooring must be hard enough (so that there is no tearing and no recoil), but it must at the same time be able to absorb the shock by vibration effect , the intermediate and brittle layers serving as a shock absorber. We therefore sought to obtain the following qualities 1 - flexibility in depth, in order to absorb falls and reduce the
muscle fatigue 2 - rigidity at the surface, in order to distribute the loads over a greater
surface and allow maximum efficiency; 3 - a very strong localization of the deformations, with rapid amortization
of transverse propagation.

Consequently, this invention relates to a floor covering for constituting, in particular, tracks and surfaces for sports and games, of the type comprising three layers: a lower layer in contact with the ground and absorbing shock, an intermediate distribution layer. shocks, and an upper layer receiving the impact of shocks, this coating being characterized in that the lower layer consists of a crosslinked pure polyethylene foam with closed cell; the intermediate layer consists of a polyester resin laminate on glass fabric, and the upper layer is a synthetic elastomer in emulsion.

According to a preferred embodiment of this invention, the floor covering is in the form of panels of suitable dimensions, which can be assembled together.

The method of assembling the panels that are the subject of this invention is characterized in that it consists in clearing, on the adjacent panels to be assembled, the lower layer over a small width, in order to obtain under each panel a hollowed out part, facing each other; placing in said hollowed out parts a strip of plastic foam which is glued under the intermediate layer of one of the adjacent panels; presenting the other panel on said strip of glued foam, and gluing said other panel on the strip of foam secured to the adjacent panel, so as to complete the assembly of these two panels.

Other characteristics and advantages of this invention will emerge from the description given below with reference to the appended drawings, given by way of non-limiting example, and in which
- Figure 1 is a perspective view showing the three-layer coating object of this invention; and,
- Figures 2 to 7 and 8 to 13 illustrate the successive stages of the assembly of two panels according to this invention, according to two different modes.

Referring to Figure 1, we see that the coating object of this invention has three successive layers a) a bottom layer 10 in contact with the ground, or support layer, which
constitutes the shock absorption layer. It is a layer of foam
of pure polyethylene crosslinked by gamma irradiation, and of which
the thickness is about 10 mm. This foam is closed cell, of a
part to avoid any absorption of water vapor, harmful to the stratifi
cation, and, on the other hand, to obtain good thermal and pho insulation
nique, in the case of extra sports use (building, floor and wall).

A foam having a density of 30 kg per m3 is preferably used in
rough, and it is extruded, with a sanded surface skin
with fine or slightly flamed abrasive, to hang the stratification b) an intermediate layer 12, or shock distribution slab, of a thick
approx. 3 mm thick, formed from polyester resin laminate on
glass. The role of this layer is essentially mechanical: receiving
then distribute the potential load of the athlete, to reduce the shock during
from reception (or contact on the ground). The polyester resin is ren
forced by a mat of about 300 g, wet with 1 kg of resin per m2.
preferably use a surface type stratification, to avoid any
molding problem, which can constitute a handicap for the attachment of
surface coatings, in case the release agents are not
totally missing; c) a surface layer 14, which receives the impact of shocks. This layer, of a
thickness of the order of two millimeters, must have good power
polyester adhesion. Preferably using a synthetic elastomer
as an emulsion, highly dosed in acrylic resin, with an added 30%
silica ron.

Preferably, the floor covering according to this invention is in the form of panels of suitable dimensions and geometric shapes, which can be assembled so as to constitute large surfaces having homogeneous characteristics.

The preferred assembly process is as follows (Figures 2 to 7):
The two panels P1 and P2 to be assembled (Fig. 2) are stripped of their lower layer 10, 10 'over a small width, of the order of 0.04 m, so as to obtain, under each panel, a hollowed out part. 16, 16 ', respectively (Fig. 3).
Then put in place under one of the panels (the panel P1, in Figure 4), a strip of plastic foam 18 (for example, a density foam 50 kg per m3), which is glued neoprene or polyester putty under the panel P1.

The upper surface of the foam strip 18 and the lower surface of the intermediate layer 12 ′ of the panel P2 are then coated with adhesive, before applying, on each of these surfaces, a protective tape 20, 20 ′, respectively , consisting for example of silicone paper (Fig. 5).

The panels P1 and P2 are then presented so as to place them in the position illustrated in FIG. 6, the protective tapes 20, 20 ′ are removed, and the upper part of the attached strip 18 is glued on the part bottom of the intermediate layer 12 ′ of the panel P2, so as to obtain the assembly illustrated in FIG. 7.

The second assembly process, illustrated in Figures 8 to 13, is similar to that described above: the two panels to be assembled P1 and P2 (Figure 8) are stripped of their lower layer over a small width, so as to obtain a hollowed out part 16, 16 'under each panel (Fig. 9), a light sanding being carried out on the edges opposite the upper layers 14, 14'.

Then put under one of the panels (panel P2, Figure 10) a strip of plastic foam 18 ', for example a foam density 30 kg / m2, which is bonded under the panel P2. We then glue this strip 18 'under the lower surface of the intermediate layer of the panel P1 (Figure 11), then we laminate the part without upper layer of the assembled panels P1 - P2, so as to obtain a continuity surface 22 of the top layer of the assembled panels (Fig. 12), sanding, then a paint-based coating completing the assembly (Fig. 13).

Thanks to the invention, it is possible to produce floor coverings of large dimensions, in particular for sports uses.

I1 remains of course that this invention is not limited to the embodiment described and shown, but that it encompasses all variants.
